CTU's Jack Bauer has to keep a beautiful terrorist alive for 24 hours -- and his gun only has one bullet! Brilliantly conceived by J. C. Vaughn and Mark L. Haynes (Battlestar Galactica), with photorealistic art by Renato Guedes (CSI: Miami-Thou Shalt Not...).
First of all there's a pretty nice pun in the name of the one shot. And despite of photorealistic art and everything, it's rather good and fun story. Definitely worth checking out, but beware of the major spoiler for season 1.
This gets such a low score but I actually liked it. This time there is no complicated story and conspiracies and that's fine, it works in this one. It's also short, which also works. That's because the principle is very simple: Jack and his team have to protect a woman who has very important information. The characters and story all feel more or less like the tv show does and there is some sense of urgency. They probably should have left the timecodes though because they don't seem to make much sense compared to the show, it all takes too long and this does not do the sense of urgency any good. The main problem with novels based on tv-shows or movies is that you don't feel any threat. You know the main characters are not gonna be harmed and nothing extremely shocking is going to happen to them because they appear in the main tv-show. In One Shot, because Jack has to protect a terrorist because of the information she has there is a threat. Jack suddenly isn't the most important asset anymore, she is. She has to stay alive and that's what's at stake. One off the better 24 spin-off media (besides the tv series) I've seen yet.
