Optimistic Objectives: Proceedings of the 2010 Symposium organised by Warwick University Law School and Soroptimist International of Kenilworth & District

Rate this book
This edited collection is the result of a unique collaboration between Warwick Law School and Soroptimist International of Kenilworth & District. It is the product of a study day held at the University of Warwick in June 2010, at which scholars from the Law School shared their research with an audience of professional women whose own expertise in turn threw new light upon current academic debate.Structured around the 10 International Objectives adopted at the Soroptimist 2007 Conference in Glasgow, the study day ranged from domestic violence to international genocide, from the subtle pressures which control women's healthcare choices here in the UK to the overt problems they face in Afghanistan, and from gender awareness in the Indian judicial process to women's role in meeting the challenges of climate change. The resulting papers, brought together as Optimistic Objectives, cover a broad and fascinating range of issues. This collection will be of relevance not only to Soroptimists but also to academics and others with an interest in issues of gender and the law.
