A refreshingly simple, easy-to-read guide to getting started in business
If you've ever dreamed of starting your own business, this book will give you the information, inspiration, and reassurance you need to get started. It encourages budding entrepreneurs to take the leap into the dark, while shining a bright light on the first six months of a successful start-up. It breaks down what appears to be an Everest-size challenge into a series of small hills for you to conquer. Written by successful entrepreneur Jeremy Harbour, Go Do! argues that the skills and tactics of successful entrepreneurship can't be learnt except by doing. So this book offers the guidance and the confidence you need to just go do it.
After losing his 14-year old brother at the age of 10 - Jeremy developed massive anxiety over his own mortality - it became the fuel that fired his personal and professional success.
In the late 1990's, Jeremy Harbour acquired a competitor of the telecommunications he owned - without cash or involving a bank. Proving that necessity truly is the mother of invention, he figured out a deal structure that worked for the company he wanted to buy. In a single afternoon, he grew by a year's worth of sales - and that solidified it - he became a deal junkie.
A globally-renowned expert in Mergers & Acquisitions in the field of small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SME), Jeremy speaks all over the world - even having been invited to Buckingham Palace and The British Houses of Parliament to advise on matters of business and enterprise. His commentary has been featured in the Sunday Times, Financial Times, and numerous other publications, as well as appearing on The Money Channel.
As the founder of Unity Group, a firm specializing in attracting investments and creating opportunities for SMEs to scale, he has advised on more than 300 acquisitions of both distressed and solvent businesses. If it's a good deal, he pursues it, acquiring businesses in telecommunications, health clubs, spas, a music school, IT support, training, business process outsourcing, cleaning, air conditioning, and a cooking school, to name a few. With investments in 12 countries, you can say Jeremy's business sector agnostic.
Jeremy's passion for changing the mindset of wealth creation fueled the birth of Harbour Club where he teaches real tactics for buying, fixing, and selling businesses with no experience and no cash upfront. With new members every month it has become a change engine for good - helping entrepreneurs excel at wealth creation so they can be problem solvers in their local communities.
Here are just a few highlights of what Jeremy has worked on in the last decade: * 1000 Active Delegates in Harbour Club * 200+ Deals done through Harbour Club * 100 Deals Done through Unity-Group * 30 Reverse Mergers * 12 Countries with His Personal Investments * 2 IPO's
Go Do! by Jeremy Harbour is an energetic and genuinely motivational read. It’s very good at lighting a fire under you, especially if you’re stuck in analysis paralysis or need a reminder that action matters more than perfect plans.
That said, the book shows its age. First published in 2014, a lot of the marketing and networking advice now feels outdated, particularly in how it frames growth, visibility, and opportunity. That’s not shocking for a business book of its era, but it does limit how useful it is today.
The mindset encouraged throughout leans heavily toward constantly chasing the “next big thing.” That approach may suit startups or fast-scaling entrepreneurs, but it’s not a great fit for someone who wants to be a sole trader, especially in handmade or craft-based businesses where sustainability, consistency, and depth matter more than relentless pivoting.
Overall, it’s inspiring in tone and intention, but best read as a motivational pep talk rather than a practical guide for modern small or creative businesses.
Enjoyed it. A solid introduction into the world of entrepreneurship. But it also uses terminology which are unfamiliar to people outside of the business sphere.
Far more people dream about and talk about starting a business than actually do so. Jeremy Harbour's book challenges you to cast aside your excuses and make your business dreams happen.
He covers the reality of risk, the excuses and myths that lead wannabe entrepreneurs to procrastinate and guides you through the start-up phase of your business. His final chapter "Go Do!" gives you a step-by-step plan to go from idea to real-world business.
As someone who has started a business, Targeted Resumes, this book gives me a way of looking at what's working and what's not working and adapt my business strategy to those things that will make me most likely to succeed. The last chapter, with its plan for implementing the book, is especially helpful.
If you've ever thought you'd like to start a business but haven't got past "Go," then this is the book for you.
Jeremy does a really good job of helping with New business leaders as they find themselves in the difficult world of starting a new company. I thoroughly enjoyed his backstory and how successful and unsuccessful he was and his journey through finding his way in the entrepreneurial world. The fact that he didn't just share his ups but also shared his many downs really made this book real for me
