The Vincent Price Treasury of American Art is a personally chosen collection of 149 outstanding paintings by Americans from the very first colonial achievements in recording themselves for posterity, to the 1970's movements including the resurrection of modern American Indian painting. The splendid, full-color plates in this oversized volume have been expertly checked for color fidelity, and many of the paintings are for the first time published in large, color reproduction. These are supplemented by a hundred monochrome plates.
Vincent Leonard Price Jr. (May 27, 1911 - October 25, 1993) was an American actor best known for his performances in horror films, although his career spanned other genres, including film noir, drama, mystery, thriller, and comedy.

I didn't read this book cover to cover, but went through the paintings and read the parts that interested me. I requested this from the library when I requested another Vincent Price book. I didn't know Price was an art connesiour, but it looks like he had many talents--the book is rather good. It covers American art from the late 1600s to the mid 1900s. Each page or a couple pages is devoted to an artist, so there is a nice variety on the painters and styles he covers.
