I read this book after participating in a virtual retreat where the author was one of the leaders. This book challenged me to think about aspects of my faith that I had previously not considered. It took a while to get through because I wanted to be able to "chew" on what I was reading.

Worth the read, but plan to take your time reading this!

The monastic "Rule of St. Benedict"can be summed up in the phrase, "Be the first to show respect for the other, bearing with patience one another's weaknesses." Funk offers a cogent, practical exploration of a word that derives from the Latin humus, "of the earth, " and explains why monastics consider cultivating humility (having an accurate sense of self and a heart for service) a pillar of the spiritual life.
