A man chastises his lazy dog as they both sit on the porch of their little country house. He tells the dog if he were smart, then they'd go off and make lots of money and become famous. After all their work and fame, they would buy a small house for two in the country and retire there. Perhaps the dog is smarter than the man originally thought.
This book is a great way to introduce narratives and how as reader we want to know more about the smart dog. This book can also be classified as humor too.
