I recently had a jury summons and wish my children and I had read this first! It breaks down the process perfectly. I think I would have been much more at ease had I read this first.

This title is one of the True Books Civics series. It tackles the topic of jury duty, long the bane of most adults. However, for intermediate readers it breaks down the steps of the process into manageable parts that teach them about responsibility, cooperation and good citizenship. A brief history of juries, including a time line, is provided. Age-appropriate text addresses kinds of trials, expectations of jurors and typical court proceedings. Color photographs of actual courtroom settings aid understanding. Glossary words are bolded throughout. Back matter includes a glossary, a statistics page, resources, and an index. This book is a first-rate introduction to our justice system and a helpful resource for research. It is a worthwhile addition for any library.

This book goes into the definition and reason for a juror. It also talks about how the juror is selected , what the jury does, and how they reach a verdict. Very good book for 4th-5th graders, and very interesting with the use of real pictures. It's a great book to use if teaching about jury duty, and it's also great for adults b/c I have learned some things that I've never known!!
