THE LAST STAR?

Rate this book
Robert Oppenheimer, the lead scientist in the Manhattan Project, is kidnapped by humans from the future to help save the dying universe. There's only one star left in the universe, or is there? Apparently so, thus when it dies if they do nothing the universe will become eternally dead with nothing but extremely dense matter; unless! They can split an electron at the precise moment that star dies and explodes, which will be enough to break apart the dense matter to start the star formation process again. The species they are at war with had detonated a weird bomb that destroyed all the stars but for one that was far enough away to survive. Now it is up to the humans to put the universe back in order. With only 28 earth days left until the star dies, they are having problems with the math, the solutions aren't lining up and they cannot figure out why. So, they check earth's history; during the atomic age, they noticed that Oppenheimer came out against the bomb. They thought that was strange since he helped to create it, so they further thought that perhaps he knew something that he kept secret, something they cannot figure out, the one thing that would make their bomb work. That is why they go get him. As it turns out, he did keep something secret, and it is the key to making their math valid. However, a new problem arises; they now have discovered they've been basing their math on a false premise, so the bulk of the billions of years' worth of math has to be completed all over again. So, they have to find short cuts. Things really get exciting when they are forced into battle, while they frantically work on the math to make their bomb work. The spaceships fire disintegrating laser bullets in patterns determined by mathematical equations. All of their mechanical devices are controlled telepathically, and their technological advances are beyond imagination. If they succeed with what looks like to be astronomically impossible, then it isn't really the last star; but if they fail, it is...
