Teaching Today’s Health, Tenth Edition, balances comprehensive theory with a wealth of effective classroom activities to give you the tools you need to become successful health educators. This book’s strong background and depth in teaching methods prepares you for the challenges of today’s teaching environment. Priced significantly less than other books in the market, this attractive two-color book provides great value to you.
Other teaching textbooks I've read focus on philosophy, pedagogy, and teaching methods. They expect you to already know the content and instead focus on how to teach it. This textbook was different in that about half of it was content--teaching the fast and furious basics of a variety of health topics. A chapter would focus on a topic and the following chapter would have lesson ideas for that content. It was a decent and informative textbook overall, it just wasn't what I expected. Additionally, I didn't find the lesson ideas very helpful--a lot of "give a handout, talk about it, ask questions, and do some role-play." Those are all certainly fine, but it's exactly how my health classes were and I didn't learn any new lesson styles or approaches.
Just what it says on the cover - it talks about health topics and how to teach them. Clear explanations, lots of sample questions and ideas. I especially appreciate that each subject covers both the facts/science itself and how to incorporate the material in the classroom. This is kind of a niche topic, but if you need it this is a good book.
For a text book this text is quite enjoyable. The content is quick to the point with very littke extra. After every chater the book offers a list of lesson plans to teach the content which is quite useful. The font and chapter length is perfect. I have actually enjoyed this text.
