The Cava Queen

Rate this book
Television lifestyle guru and determined singleton Alex Chapman is quite happy bobbing along with all the other flotsam and jetsam in the backwaters of D-list telly, presenting a makeover show called ‘Sort Your Life Out’. But on the eve of her 40th birthday her life hits an unexpected watershed and she is forced to acknowledge that maybe it’s time she took a little of her own ‘life changing’ medicine?Fate lends a hand and she ends up in Sitges, a little town near Barcelona. This place is 24/7 party central - fiesta mad Catalans, bitchy old drag queens and more trolley dollies than cava corks.Single Shirley Valentine meets Sex and The City with a sequinned splash of Priscilla Queen of the Desert – The Cava Queen is a celebration of individuality, escaping the rat race and living the life you were born to lead.Sometimes when you think it’s all falling apart, maybe it’s actually coming together?

A genre that is hard to find: chick lit with characters in their 40s!

Aside from the story, this was a great reminder of the beauty of Sitges. :)

Hmm, was hoping for something reminiscent of Bridget Jones, but poor writing got in the way of an otherwise intriguing window into life in sunny Sitges. I greatly enjoyed my recent trip to Sitges anyway.
