A much-needed resource for helping teachers assess the increasing number of diverse students and English learners in today’s K-12 classrooms, Assessment Accommodations for Classroom Teachers of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students details effective classroom assessment practices and organizes recommended strategies around the four critical dimensions of the CLD student biography: the sociocultural, linguistic, academic, and cognitive dimensions. Written from the perspective of a differential lens on assessment practices for CLD students, the book focuses on the student as the driving force behind its narrative and organization and examines the Who, Where, What, When, and How of using appropriate assessment practices with CLD students.
This book was really well written with a lot of great information in digestible bites. I might also be biased because compared to the HCM textbook, I was able to purchase this one in kindle. This supremely helped my concentration levels and understanding because I could highlight and make notes in the texts through the kindle app. Then I could view the notes all together in one place. Technology is amazing. Anyway, I read this book in conjunction with s other assessment textbook. They blur together a bit, but this one is much more in depth when it discusses the information it presents.
The most important thing I learned about this book was that reading levels are crucial when teaching ELLs. Some of the assessments were interesting and gave me the thought of, “Oh, I could try this! I didn’t know this was “allowed”. Can’t wait to try this out!” I read this book to pair with my online class in which some of the review questions were utilized from this book. Not an easy read, but interesting nonetheless.
