New parents are often so ancious; they need to know what's normal and when they should worry. This concise reference by pediatric nurse and parent educator Helen Fowler Neville, R.N., B.S., provides reassuring information on each phase of development. Numerous easy-to-read charts amplify the text.
Well-organized and a quick read with practical advice. Was able to go through the relevant material in a couple of hours without wasting too much time reading about the general philosophy of parenting. Really appreciate this as a number of other books don't respect parents' time.
This book had some facinating bits about child development and the various stges children go through, but it could seriously make you paranoid because with all it's focus on attachment it made me wonder how the author believes anyone who is adopted or goes through grief or a less tahn perfect upbringing goes on to become a ethical individual. Instead of being reassuring, which I had expected I thought the book gave too much info- it actually reminded me of What To Expect When You're Expecting in that way where it was just too much and could lead to too much worry. I did enjoy the inclusion of interesting facts about different child rearing styles from different cultures around the globe.
I thought this would help my husband understand some stages of child development. It wasn't really that helpful though. I was wanting more textbook type info in a simpler format. This was just like the forms they sometimes give you at a pediatrician's office about what you're kid should be able to do by then. Maybe I'm just remembering my child development textbook from college differently, but I really didn't think this book was that great.
This is a great resource for discipline strategies and also general knowledge about child development and growth. This book helped me understand what my child is going through cognitively which helps me deal with the challenges of his age.
Adult, child development, this book is not breaking any new ground, but did provide a nice snapshot on a couple of issues. Scanned a great deal of it as it covers 0 - 6, and we are past some of it. It's good to be reminded about what is appropriate for his age.
Extremely helpful book for quick reviews of specific topics/concerns, but has a nice overall theme, so you can read through it or skip to your area of need.
