Economic Development and Environment: A Case Study of India

Rate this book
This is a collection of essays dealing with India's economic development in terms of its effects on environment. The contributors point out the various environmental issues which were overlooked in the process of industrialization in India, such as its impact on ecology and the sustenance of
the rural communities. The volume highlights the failure of the planners in recognizing the necessity of environmental conservation and strikes a note of warning to the policy-makers, concluding that although the recent issue of environmental conservation has gained importance, its execution depends
on the extent to which short-term gains can be reconciled with long-term benefits.
