Anne is an author, journalist, broadcaster, partner – and mother to three grown sons. She gave up the struggle to decide which of these roles is most important and relaxed into acceptance that all are important. Her priorities are: partner and three sons in equal measure. She writes to earn a living.

“Writing is not just about the joy of earning money. Writing, of any sort, offers such a spark of creativity that it compensates for the tough things in life. And of course life has been both tough and joyful," she says.

I read this book several years ago but forgot about it until my daughter did a review of QUEER: A GRAPHIC HISTORY. This is a quick overview of the history of the scientific study of sex. It is amazing to realize that for most of its history, sexology has been illegal. Today we take it for granted that we can read the latest scientific findings about orgasm, birth control and gender but until recently even doctors did not have access to this kind of science because it was considered obscene. The scientists who pioneered this study were vilified, ostracized, incarcerated and defunded. And yet they persisted. This is a history with which we should all be familiar!
