When Glen and Karen Ruane moved to the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York, they had no idea what was in store for them. Soon a new addition to their family would bring about some changes. One day, they spotted an advertisement for Akita puppies in a local newspaper. Just two weeks later, a cute little girl, named Misty Lady, would make a big difference in their lives. This book is about Misty’s experiences growing up in the Adirondacks, written from her point of view. From the day she came to her new home, she became part of the family, and never looked back. She is filled with love and devotion for her “parents”, and they adore her, as well. She has a special personality, and is among the most loyal of dogs. Karen and Glen both agree life would definitely not be the same without Misty Lady.
Glen Ruane is retired and living with his wife, Karen, and their beloved Akita, Misty, in the small town of Long Lake, NY, which is in the Adirondack Mountains.
Glen enjoys local history, cooking, wildlife, and exploring backroads. He discovered writing to be a pleasurable passtime during the long winters and rainy days. THEY CAME WITH FAITH, HOPE AND COURAGE is the story of early settlers who loved the wilderness and wanted to make their home there.
His newest book, written with his wife, Karen, tells about Misty's experiences in life. It is appropriately called THROUGH THE EYES OF MISTY LADY, and is available in Kindle and paperback.
I was disappointed in this book. As an animal trainer, I spend much of my time viewing a dog’s nature through their senses. This book promises and fails to do this. It is a short travelogue describing a couple’s life with their dog. The dog appears to sense the world exactly as humans do. Understands future, past and sees color exactly as humans do. I could go on.
The prose are pedestrian at best, “We go here, we go here next.” that sort of things. There are grammatical errors and misspellings.
This book truly takes you into the mind of the Akita dog,Misty Lady. If you've ever wondered what a dog thinks as it grows up from puppyhood and gets its new mama and papa, this book will tell you. I wished from beginning to end to be able to sit and pet this amazing dog. She thinks herself a princess and learns about her world in the beautiful Adirondacks of New York state and your right there with her. The photos of the animals she meets along the way only help to make this book more endearing. Mr.Ruane knows the minds of animals.I'm looking forward to books of the future by him and hoping the are full of animal perspective stories from this Irish/American storyteller. If Misty Lady is in them as well, even better.
