Using clever rhymes and colorful illustrations that catch the eyes and ears, everyday situations and occurrences are used to illustrate how much happier life can be when manners are used. Ages 5-8.
My 4-year-old thought this was a funny book. It had opportunities for us to talk about what to do in certain situations. It starts, "What do you do when you must say, 'Aaachoo' when a sneeze like a hurricane blows?" The illustration is a girl sneezing and blowing everything away, including the dog. I asked my child what he thought she should have done. Then we turned the page and read, "Don't stand on your head, or go jump on the bed--say, 'Excuse me' (and cover your nose)!"
Another example . . . "What do you say if someone's in your way? Do you act like a lion and roar?" I was able to ask my child what he thought you could say in this situation before turning the page and reading, "Do you tickle and lick them, or take glue and stick them? Try 'Pardon me'--that's what manners are for!"
It also talked about littering, what to do if you don't get your way, and what to do when your mom's on the phone.
