This book was "heavy." I was invested in the relationships part, BUT, if you aren't into "gaming," the story becomes tedious. I learned more than I ever wanted to know about the design, programing and marketing of computer games. If you are a gamer, this book is for you.

I liked the character development and story was unique. It was really long, but I loved the love stories of this book, and the relationships, they were raw and realistic. I really appreciated this read.

This book was really good. I didn’t want to read it/I’ve put off reading it because I didn’t think I’d get the video game aspect. Yes, some of that I didn’t LOVE but, the way love is written in this is amazing, not the same copy pasted: steamy, heated romance. Like friend love, grief, struggles, mental health. I cannot wait to read this book again.

I loved how this book depicts love and work in such a creative way. This story explains the relationships between people as we grow older and how they change over time, yet how they all stay the same in one way or another. Of course, there’s the storytelling of how a great game is made but also the beautiful and painstaking creative process that always follows right beside it. I’m not a gamer by any means but I still found this book enjoyable and entertaining to read because of the writing. There was so much thought and detail that went into this book. You can truly tell that Gabrielle Zevin appreciated the creative process of this book and it’s even more evident in her detailed notes/acknowledgments. Her care for what she does is easily portrayed in this novel, which reflects perfectly in my admiration for the story. Zevin’s walks you through nostalgia, heartbreak, griefs, victory, the creative process, and the trials alongside fulfillment that comes from relationships (those that are romantic and the ones greater than.) Such a beautiful book. Couldn’t put it down.

I gave a new favorite author after listening & reading this book! Gabrielle Zevin’s imaginative story is beautiful in many strange ways. It’s a story of trauma and it’s impact on the brain and body. It’s a story of the rollercoaster of friendships.
It’s a story of striving, creating, playing video games and achievements in many different levels in one’s life. I loved the story and I’m not a video gamer! I found the video game aspects fascinating! I feel I understand my own teenage Children’s video gaming interest so much better. Highly recommend this book. The audio book was excellent.

This is one of the only books that I truly couldn’t put down . I was so hooked to the concept that was new to me and I fell in love with the characters. I’m not into gaming but I felt that the more I learned about the world of programmers the more I felt filled with knowledge about this unfamiliar world . I would recommend it to anyone seeking a comfort read ❤️

What a befitting book to end the year. Loved it. I’m not into gaming but I understood and enjoyed Sam, Sadie and Marx create and produce games. It’s a story about love, grief and friendships spanning decades. And it is beautifully written.

Loved this book! Took some interesting turns and built the characters up nicely. Not a video gamer but loved the info about developing new ideas.

The worst. Tedious, monotonous, bland, and extremely long. I should win an award for making it to the end.
