About the author

Rupert Christiansen is an English writer, journalist and critic, grandson of Arthur Christiansen (editor of the Daily Express) and son of Kay and Michael Christiansen (editor of the Sunday and Daily Mirror). Born in London, he was educated at Millfield and King's College, Cambridge, where he took a double first in English. As a Fulbright scholar, he also attended Columbia University from 1977 to 1978.

Another memoir. Short one. Christiansen nearing the age of 60 delves into his parents' marriage which dissolved when he was five in order to make some sense of what the divorce did to them and him. He has much to say about his mom and dad, who knows whether he has pegged them correctly or not, but this is a sad, wise and touching book that shows we never really get over our parents.
