Shadows of the Past

Rate this book
ANALISE ISN’T LIKE OTHER TEENAGERS…She travels in her sleep. She talks to angels. Spirits are drawn to her pureness of heart. She can see and hear what others cannot, or perhaps that which they simply refuse to acknowledge.

Analise lived in the state foster care system since her birth, so her life has never been typical...until she showed up on Rose Michael’s doorstep. After Rose adopted Analise, life settled into a quiet, satisfying routine. But, her senior year in high school changed all of that. So far, this year has been anything but predictable…

She met an unlikely, but interesting, new friend. She inadvertently managed to tangle with some mean girls at school. And, her dreams revealed details of a startling mystery that led her into the world of a handsome stranger who helped uncover the identity of a malevolent entity that haunted her.

But now, the first semester has come to a close. With her handsome stranger, Analise’s loneliness consumes her. Although she still has much to learn about her gifts, she can’t help but dwell on some haunting secrets of her own.

In her memoir, Analise takes you deep inside her chaotic, and somewhat surprising, childhood as she attempts to uncover long buried gifts, triumph over the darkness that surrounds her, and finally dispel the Shadows of the Past.

Gale Minchew is a licensed psychologist who resides in East Texas with her husband and two children. In her professional practice, Dr. Minchew specializes in issues related to children and families. However, over the past couple of years, she has consulted with adults and children who have experienced a broad range of paranormal phenomena, as well.

In 1995, Gale earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Dallas. Following her graduation, she decided to continue her education with an interest in the counseling field. However, learning that her employer would assist with tuition reimbursement, Gale decided to change majors. In 1996, she earned a Master of Arts degree in Human Resources & Training from Amber University (now Amberton) located in Garland, TX. She met her soon-to-be husband at school, shortly before completing her Master's degree and beginning coursework for a second Master's degree in Counseling.

Instead of completing a second Master's degree, Gale married in 1997 and turned her attention towards her new husband and family. About a year after the birth of their second child in 2001, Gale decided to continue her education with a baby in her arms and a toddler running around her feet (or climbing ladders, door jams, or anything else in her way!).

In 2006, Dr. Minchew earned a Doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology from Capella University in Minneapolis, MN. After completing the required internships, she became licensed by the State of Texas in 2008. She has continued in private practice since that time.

In Shadows of he past, we are given insight into Analise Michaels' life growing up, before we meet her in Shadows of Destiny (the first book of the 'Shadows of Destiny' Saga).

From the time she became aware of her ability to talk to spirits and angels, she learned that she had to be secretive about 'being different' from the other kids. Her special abilities caused kids to ridicule her, foster parents to send her back to the county & in all, make Analise a very unhappy child.

Until, that is, Rose takes her in, and between Rose and her 'special' angel Constantine, they guided her in developing and understanding her abilities, both in communicating with the spirits, and with astral projection. With the enlightenment comes strength, and Analise grows into the young adult that we meet in Shadows of Destiny.

A wonderful read, and the book really gives the reader a great insight into what makes Analise tick. I strongly recommend that anyone read this book if you enjoyed book 1. I'd say that this could easily be read first, as well, but whatever you do, you simply MUST read the entire Saga by this very talented author!

Fantastic story line. I loved it. I felt really drawn into it as if I was the girl in the main character, which was amazing because I've never felt so pulled into such a character as this before. It's such a sweet tale and refreshing, too, from what I normally read. But I thoroughly enjoyed it. So now I can't wait to go on to the sequels. Thank you, Gale, for a delightful novel. I hope you'll get to write more sequels on Annalise.
