About the author

Rotraut Susanne Berner (born 1948) is a German graphic designer and illustrator.
She illustrated The Number Devil by Hans Magnus Enzensberger.

She is well known for a series of popular children's book, called “Wimmel” books, which have attained a worldwide circulation of close to 500,000 copies in fifteen countries.

Working as a freelance illustrator, she has focused on books for children and young adults, illustrating more than 80 such books and designing over 800 book covers.

A book that I read to my three-year old daughter as a bed-time story. This comic has eight different fairy tales, each told in about 4-5 pages. The drawings are vivid and have many small details where the eye can linger and the frames change depending on what's right for the story, breaking up a potentially monotonous read. I enjoyed reading, pointing at times to the pictures, sometimes elaborating a bit, and my daughter was all ears (and eyes). After 2-3 stories we would stop for the night and go to bed. Some of the brutality of the original fairy tales is still in the comic, so if that's not something you want to show to your children, stay clear of this book.

Aunque es una novela gráfica corta entretiene.
Honestamente a primera vista se puede pensar que es una lectura para niños, pero honestamente no se que tan adecuado sea que lo lean con las escenas que aunque caricaturescas, son más adultas en varias escenas, claro, los cuentos de los hermanos Grimm no son todos bonitos pero no esperaba que fuera de esa forma.
Independientemente de lo anterior entretiene y se lee muy rápido, el diseño es muy bonito junto con las ilustraciones, que desde mi perspectiva los cuentos son relatados desde la imaginación de la ilustradora, pero siendo fiel a las historias originales.

Patika ilustrācijas, bet Grimu pasaku interpretācija lika aizdomāties: paga, paga, vai tā tur bija? Piemēram, varde pārvēršas par princi nevis tad, kad tiek nobučots, bet - kad tiek sviests pret sienu? Sarkangalvīte ir tas pats kas Zemenīte no Pinokio?
Autoresprāt "viņi dzīvoja ilgi un laimīgi" nozīmē divus plikos, cieši apkampušos gultā zem rozā dūnu segas, tā ka vecākiem jāņem vērā, ka grāmatā ir arī vairāki gultas skati. Kad es biju šīs grāmatas auditorijas vecumā, man gan šie vārdi par laimīgām beigām pavisam citādu ainu nozīmēja un tagad arī ne visai patīk šāda programmēšana.
