After the loss of her family, Shanntal must leave all that she’s familiar with to live with her aunt and uncle. Life on this intriguing island is unlike anything her imagination could stir up. She meets Jayce, who unveils an entire new world full of immortals and she finds herself falling in love, befriending fairies, shape shifters and many others. Encountering the vampire ‘Daray’ triggers her memory, placing her back into the realm of nightwalkers. As Shanntal struggles to remember her past, she learns she’s an immortal and not just any kind–she’s one of a kind. She’s the one who can walk in both worlds. An evil named Donovan is hunting her and he’s the stranger from the gardens who turned Daray and changed their lives forever.

As her memory returns, she’s torn between the love of Jayce and her loyalty to Daray and left wondering if she’ll ever get the chance to head up to the colored stars where immortals stay entwined with their true love for all time. Shanntal finds her place, but not the way she expected and now none of their lives will be the same. Both worlds are about to dramatically change and Shanntal’s the key... if she’s strong enough to survive.

This is Jennifer Blyth's fantastic debut novel!

Escaped the Night is a breathtaking paranormal romance that has the most amazing line up of paranormal creatures I've ever seen in one novel! It has vampires, werewolves, faeries, shape-shifters, unicorns, immortals, and more! The characters are all great as well! There are ones you hate, ones you love, and ones that make you laugh. Shanntal is the main character and despite having been through and sacrificed a lot, she stays strong through the entire novel! She is very brave, stubborn, protective of those she loves, and has a good heart! All the qualities that make up a great character! Jayce is every girl's fantasy. Handsome, tattoo, charming, romantic, and protective. He introduces Shanntal to the incredible world of the daywalkers VS the nightwalkers, along with all of the other creatures. All of the minor characters are just as entertaining, and really get you rooting for them throughout the novel.

The story is unique! It has many different factors that come together and make a really great book! It has the perfect mix of action and romance. The story had me smiling, laughing, and crying. At the end I had a huge smile on my face and was left feeling completely satisfied. Everything was wrapped up nicely with a big bow on top! (Or a pretty cover!) I really liked that the cover had some hidden significance that was hidden in the story!

The writing is fresh, gruesome at times, beautiful in others. The descriptions were a big part of the story and they do not disappoint! I love how Jennifer captures all the different scenes perfectly. The pacing was perfect for the story, starting off slow and ending with a bang! Just when you think you've figured out what has happened, it changes. A hint of suspense was always present.

Escaped the Night is a wonderful paranormal romance that I definitely recommend to anyone that likes the genre! It is a tale of true love and good overcoming evil, as well as a coming of age story. It's an addictive read that will have you connecting to the characters and will make you not want to put it down!

I will definitely be reading more from Jennifer Blyth! I really hope she chooses to do a sequel!

Thank you to Jennifer for providing the review copy!

"Escaped the Night captivates young adult readers with its wonderful blend of action, magic, mystical creatures, and a secret that will be revealed, explaining everything." - nerdywordyreviews

Shanntal is a young girl filled with anxieties and strange nightmares. Not knowing why or what caused them, she continues to advance in life, trying her best to ignore the negatives, until the night everything changes.
Shanntal spends the night at her best friend's place, and although some really odd things happen while she is there, it is when she returns home that the reality sinks in. Her family is no longer of the living. The police believe a wild animal attack took them. Leaving her an orphan, her aunt and uncle adopt her and bring her to live with them on a smaller island where she has to start all over.
When Jayce comes along, he introduces Shanntal to a new group of friends. A place where she finally feels she fits in. A group who makes her feel noticed and included. People who open her eyes to who she is and to who they are. She feels happy, good, and content.
When secrets expose themselves, Shanntal learns more about her past than she ever thought was possible. Her nightmares become reality where she finds herself on a whirlwind adventure to defend what she didn't know was possible, learning more about herself along the way.

Escaped The Night is a well-written Young Adult novel filled with many intriguing moments that captivate the readers, encouraging them to continue with the story.
Some concepts are brilliant ideas created by author Jennifer Blyth making this story fun, alive, and intriguing.
The book contains twists, magic, and supernatural elements. Some which are unique and well thought out and designed.
The story flows nicely together from chapter to chapter. As the story unfolds, the truth of the past comes to light and pulls the book together as a whole, sealing the plot and closing out with a great ending.

Shanntal has had a rough month, presumably due to the disturbing nightmares she has almost every night. As thus, it's only fitting that the story begins with a nightmare where Shanntal is being stalked by a dark figure with red eyes and bloody hands. Shanntal has dreadful nightmares like this almost every night. She wants to put those nightmares behind her and have fun. What better way to do so than by spending the night at her best friend Ginata's house?

Unfortunately, hanging out with Ginata only makes Shanntal's month that much more difficult. Ginata's interest in witchcraft and Ouija boards grabs the attention of a powerful vampire named Daray who claims he's been searching for Shanntal. One thing leads to another until Shanntal's home becomes nothing more than a mortuary. In the span of one night, Shanntal loses both her family and Ginata's family.

The police have no leads on the murderer(s). Reporters insist that Shanntal is somehow behind the deaths. The only thing Shanntal knows is that the bodies were drained of all liquids and had various bite marks.

With very few reasons to remain in Greyton, Shanntal decides to move to Blackwood with Stephanie, her aunt, and Danier, her uncle. That's how she meets Jayce, an extremely good looking guy with a dangerous vibe who quickly befriends and woos her, and all of his friends. Instead of trying to hide their oddities and powers, they make them clear from the get-go.

However, that powerful vampire Ginata and Shanntal talked to with the Ouija board isn't out of the picture yet. It turns out Shanntal and Daray had a past together. Soon Shanntal finds herself torn between Jayce and Daray. Who should she choose? To make matters worse, there are rumors about a war brewing amongst the immortals. The outcome will be up to Shanntal, since they believe she is the key to keeping peace as the savior. Can Shanntal succed?

The first one hundred pages were pretty rough. I spotted a couple of typos and awkwardly phrased sentences. Even though there were sections dedicated to Shanntal's background and family life, I couldn't quite grasp her special attributes or her seemingly nonchalant reactions to never aging and missing certain memories. At some points, Shanntal felt like a Mary Sue, mainly because almost everyone was willing to protect and work for Shanntal at a moment's notice due to her being special and unique. I had a hard time understanding why Jayce fell for her so very fast.

However, the story picks up when Shanntal and Jayce get into an argument and Shanntal decides to gather her own small group of friends to find things out herself. When she can't rely on Jayce, Daray, or her shapeshifter friend, the reader really gets a fulfilling and interesting peak into what makes Shanntal unique and special. After adventuring on her own, Shanntal's characterization rounds out and Escaped the Night becomes a read worth finishing.

I'd say that this book appeals most to paranormal romance fans and those who loved Twilight. The start is rocky, but the book is an enjoyable read overall, and the overarching message that love and friendship conquers all is sweet and charming.

So this book was pretty good when I first started it. It had horror and mystery to it which drew me into it. Also it was somewhat different from any book that I've read so even more bonus points. Four characters had powers of the elements fire, water, air, and earth. Jayce had the power to keep them together. Shanntal is the most important piece for the elements and supernatural world altogether, but she has to find out exactly why. There are different mythical creatures in here vampires, werewolves, fairies, and shape shifters. The story was even better and the world Shanntal was thrown into after her family was killed grasped me and didn't want to let go. Unfortunately it's hold on me only lasted halfway through the book. Shanntal constantly had pity parties for herself and threw herself into dramatic unnecessary situations which reminded me of Bella from Twilight. Except Shanntal does have a personality. It seems like Shanntal is a hard person to try and make be happy. Through most of the book she's upset or depressed in some way. I mean I can understand her being upset about death of course. But other situations I couldn't because as she said herself they were her fault. I just wanted to grab her if she were real and tell to go and fix those problems. Some of them she was in control of and could fix if she really wanted to. Then Jayce was cool too in the beginning. But then he became practically just like Shanntal moping and feeling sorry for himself. Not cool. I loved the idea of the world the story was put into and I loved it. I was so intrigued by this new world this story beheld. I feel like if Shanntal and Jayce weren't the whiny and lonely lovers it could have been better.

7*s. What would you if you found out that you were an immortal? I loved the setup of the characters and their uniqueness they bring to this story. Its ann awesome paranormal story but it was kinda slow for me to get through. There wasn't enough action in it, but it was very well written and fast paced. Teenage heart throb girls fill fall in love with this story over and over again!! I am happy to have had the opportunity to read this awesome love story!!
