Darcy Pennington hates her life. She is an insufferably average teenager with no real friends, crushing social anxiety, and an indescribable sense of not fitting in anywhere. Then a change in her dad’s job forces her to attend Cedar Cove Family Camp where she once again finds herself on the outside of a social circle.
After unwittingly stumbling through a magical gateway to a new world called Alitheia, Darcy begins to realize there might be a higher purpose for her life, and she eventually convinces the other five teenagers to travel there with her. Once there, they learn the “arrival of the Six” was prophesied hundreds of years before, and that they must expel an ancient evil from the land. Will Darcy have what it takes to save Alitheia? Or will she fall prey to a deadly foe?
Lindsey Gray spends her days and most of her nights creating characters, over thinking everything, and trying to remember all the things on her massive to-do list. One thing that is always at the top of her list is writing something she hopes others will enjoy. Her journey into authordom began when her first novel was published in 2010. Through trials, tribulations, and learning how to work well with others in the author sandbox, she has found a joy she never thought she would know.
Her many lists also include mothering her two children, devoting time to her handsome hubby, formatting novels for other authors, and hosting her weekly radio show, Gray Matters, on TMV Cafe Internet Radio.
This book picks up where Redemption left off; to say more would give spoilers. It is not strictly necessary to read the first in the series, as Lily does use her considerable love for detail and journaling to bring a reader up to date. However, it will be a far better experience, and the characters will breathe more fully for you as a reader if you have read the first book.
I read both books straight through with little to no break in between. They are that captivating and enjoyable, and each action brings a whole series of new possibilities for a reaction or a character. As in Redemption this is a vampire story unlike all others. It combines angels, demons, corporate oversight, science, technology and witchcraft to create a melange of interrelated story lines that all manage to center around Lily, the main character and vampire with special powers that are yet to be revealed to all. This is a really difficult review to write without spoiling the secrets left unanswered in Redemption, and not spoiling the reader’s experience for Revisited. So, please pardon the vagaries as to plot, and realize that as a character driven novel, with many different threats to each of the players in the story are increasing and unexpected, and creates a whole different experience than you have heretofore encountered.
More characters are introduced that quickly become integral to the plot, while there is a core of characters who are developing and becoming more fully realized as the story line continues. A secret unknown to Becca (Lily’s surrogate daughter) will bring her beliefs and plans for the future into question, and her powers are beyond all comprehension. Again in this book Peter the “angel manager” is delving into situations but revealing little, and a strange twist to the demonic possession idea is presented in a very novel and unique way. Lindsey Gray has managed to create a story that is part romance and hot love scenes intermingled with the life threatening action, and added a paranormal twist with a twist to it all. The characters are developing and becoming more ‘known’ to the readers, they also are developing stronger and deeper ties with each other, which also means that there are more scenes of seduction and sexuality. It still is, to me, firstly a character driven story that requires their coming together to trust each other, and to rely on one another to defeat the threats to life and happiness. I cannot wait for the 3rd book to be completed (as I hope there is one, and expect one) for that will certainly be on my "must read" list.
I received an eBook copy from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.
‘Revisited’ is the continued story of Lily Edwards, the only female vampire left, her family and friends and her quest to stop the rising darkness which seeks to destroy everyone she loves. Readers are in for major surprises in ‘Revisited’, including some very interesting back story into Lily’s life as a vampire. The author has completely charmed this reviewer with her characters and the ease in which each is introduced and becomes integral to the story. With many threads twisting together to coalesce into the main story, I was kept on the edge of my seat. I didn’t want the story to end, but thankfully there is a 3rd book which I am anxiously awaiting. I don't want to give away too many details, but Ms. Gray has given complexity and depth to an unusual and unique paranormal story.
