From Dick Bruna, the well-loved author and illustrator of the Miffy books, come three compact and delightful picture books introducing shapes, colors, and I Can Count, My Vest Is White, and Round, Square, Triangle. Each one is illustrated in Bruna’s inimitable style and teaches simple concepts. Early learners can see how shapes pop up in everyday objects; that every color is there in the clothes you wear; and how there are lots of things to count in everything you see.
Hendrik Magdalenus Bruna was een Nederlandse grafisch vormgever, tekenaar en schrijver van kinderboeken. Hij werd wereldberoemd met zijn kinderboekjes over nijntje.
This book is about shapes - specifically circle, square and triangle. The front cover depicts a person wearing a triangular hat and holding a coloured circle and square. The shapes are the only things coloured on the front page which draws the readers eyes and shows that these are the focus of this book. The book, like all of her others, once again starts off with "This book belongs to ..." which is a good feature as adds a sense of belonging for the child. The person depicted on the front cover is repeated three times in the book - once each time for the differing shapes. The shape name is written on the left side of the page in easy to read black text on a white background to draw the readers eye. On the opposite page is the person holding the corresponding shape which is the only element coloured on the page helping readers identify which picture the word is associated with. On the following few pages coloured examples of that shaped are illustrated which is useful for readers to see real life objects depicted. Then this pattern is repeated for the last two shapes.
Only 3 words, the rest is pictures. Not for everyone but would be fun to look through with a young toddler as the pictures are simple and bright. Basic concepts book.
