An interesting, if a bit outdated, discussion about methodology in History. Both sides have some valid points, specially when conceding that both quantitative and traditional methods have much to add to our knowledge of the past. However, if one looks at argumentative strength, Fogel's essay is vastly outclassed by Elton's defense of "traditional" history.
