This celebration of Project Linus presents over 20 quilting projects perfect for giving--and for inspiring quilters to do good in the world. When a child is seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need, Project Linus comes to the rescue with a new, lovingly handmade blanket or afghan. With this precious gift, a volunteer quilter can bring a little warmth, security, comfort, and joy into that childs life. Quilt It with Love tells the story of this wonderful organization, sharing stories from both recipients and donors and showcasing fabulous projects--often made with easy-to-use fabric precuts--that even beginners can make. Designed largely for children and teens, these quilts feature fun extras, like pockets for storing stuffed animals or a pattern that doubles as a game board.
I've heard about Project Linus for a while, but it was only recently that I looked into what they accept and who they give to. I like that they accept home-made blankets of all types and give them to kids in all kinds of situations. This book, lent to me by a friend, has some cute patterns for kids. Some are a little cutesy for my taste, but some of the simpler ones can be customized with fun kid-friendly fabric. Interspersed with the patterns are letters received by Project Linus from kids who were recipients and their family members, as well as a testimonial of sorts from the national president and vice president of the organization on how they got involved.
Introduction to the history of Project Linus by its founders, with letters from grateful quilt recipients. Included are 20 quilt patterns rated from beginner to experienced, some of which use the pre-cut pieces available in craft stores. The directions are step-by-step, and appear to be easy to follow. Patterns can be adapted to any quilt-appropriate fabrics so that the quilts can be made suitable for any age or gender preference. All are small crib or lap-size quilts.
