When spring arrives, Maya's life begins to change. She thinks her cousin leaving is the biggest change she'll experience but a meeting with the boy from across the street proves her wrong. Her life, which is mostly quiet as she stays in her own bubble of home and books, is turned upside down. She just can't figure out if it's for the better or worst, or maybe a bit of both.
Mason has promised to keep to himself and avoid anyone outside of his world. The problem arrives when Maya jumps, no, speed walks, into one of his fights. Before he even knows it, he has a fake girlfriend he needs to protect while keeping parts of his life a secret from her and the rest of the world.
Both wanted this spring to pass by quietly but entering each other's lives quickly makes that impossible. As Mason tries to protect Maya from his world, she finds herself falling deeper into it, but what's more frightening isn't falling into her new fake boyfriend's world, it's falling in love.
