Lewis and Clark: The Maps of Exploration, 1507-1814

Rate this book
In 1803, as Meriwether Lewis and William Clark set out on their historic
expedition west, much of the landscape they were to encounter was shrouded
by mystery. Many believed that California was an island and that the waves
of the Pacific Ocean crashed on beaches just west of the Appalachian
Mountains! Two centuries after the expedition, the University of Virginia
Library compiled this collection of early North American maps. Lewis and
Clark: The Maps of Exploration 1507-1814 develops in detail the daunting
amount of speculation and misinformation that accompanied Lewis and Clark on
their trek across this great continent.

If you like old maps, then this book you'll love. I would have like more text, but I'm glad for the well done reproductions of the maps.
