It's Clobberin' Time all the time, as Ben Grimm teams up with heroes from across the Marvel Universe for BIG, FIST-POUNDING ACTION! But the stakes have never been higher! In this opening issue, Ben and the Incredible Hulk are stranded on a distant, ancient, alien world, where the duo must protect an ancient people against legions of Deviant hordes and ultimately face the wrath of a Celestial. Luckily, they have four fists between them!
The vibes of this series are immaculate! You’ve got a tripped out wasteland watcher guiding us through these stories as we get the modern day equivalent of a thing team up comic. It’s quick and fun, and I’m having a good time. This issue has the thing teaming up with the hulk! The day started as any normal day, with Bruce Banner and Reed Richard’s working on some science stuff as Ben came in with lunch. Reed actually had his head in the tech, literally, and Ben warned Bruce against tugging on his neck to bring him back down, lol. But as they are enjoying lunch, suddenly a doom/iron man cybernetic hybrid something pops through a security door…and just…what?! Ben tries to call out to get Reed’s attention, but he’s still too busy with the tech, so Ben takes matters into his own hands and flicks the intruder across the room. This prompts him to open a dimensional gate with his hands as he proceeds to throw Ben and Bruce into it! All be told them is that they would be entering a wasteland where the tribes are as dumb as they come, and that he would be interested to see of they will be able to return them to their reality, or result in more temporal branching. Either way, he expresses that it’s meaningless to his overall project…and leaves them stranded.
Luckily FF tech is really good, so when Ben and Bruce come across the very small local population, Ben is able to translate. And thus was the perfect day for our pair to show up, as the civilization is about to experience doom at the hands of a kaiju that followed one of their scouts back. Not to worry, Bruce’s blood pressure is already high and with a quick transformation into the hulk he is already busting open the knee cap of the kaiju! Ben jumps in next to break the things jaw as it begins to fall down, and a bit of Clobberin later and it’s done for. But that is the least of this societies worries, as it turns out their sorcerer supreme was stolen by a group of demon creatures, who have been draining his energies to benefit their evil schemes of spreading out and eating the universe! So it stands that our heroes would gain if they decided to help take down this group and return the sorcerer supreme. Ben immediately begins to develop a three step plan on infiltration and extract of the target. But he is trying to describe these plans to hulk…which is a problem. As instead of doing any of that, hulk decides to jump up and crash down on the head honcho of the enemies and grab the sorcerer back and return him to the group in a might jump. The sorcerer was still powerful and was able to open up a temporary portal back to their world…but then our heroes looked to the horizon, and saw the hordes of the demon tribe coming to destroy their group. Sigh…seems that Alicia will have to wait a bit longer for date night. The hulk and the thing jump into action. “Two versus a multitude…and the multitude were the long shot…” As the fight finishes and hulk and thing are sitting back to back, bloodied and cut up, on top of a mountain of demon bodies…Ben gets a text. It’s Johnny, and he is on the way. He also takes a moment to brag about how he has millions more followers on social media compared to Ben, lol, we all know you are using bots Johnny! But it seems that Johnny’s pickup may not be necessary. Only moments later does a robot face them, and they look over and realize it was deployed by a celestial standing on the horizon! Oh no, we just need another minute then they will be ready to smash. But as the droid deploys a crackling electricity, the two are teleported off and sent back to their own place and time! Turns out the celestial just popped by to clean up two temporal anomalies and return them without much hassle. The watcher teases that this will not be the last time Ben comes into contact with the creature that sent them there in the first place. But for now, the two are able to return back safely as Reed finally gets his head out of the tech to enjoy a meal…and drop his jaw at how beat up the two of them are, hahahahaha.
