Global geometry or analysis is a natural outgrowth of the infinitesimal calculus. While the calculus deals with the theory of differentiable functions in one or more real variables, modern differential geometry or analysis centers it attention on manifolds. Manifolds are spaces which behave locally like euclidean spaces and to which the notions of differential and integral calculus can be extended.
