Shortly after thirty-five year old Phyllida Schuyler lost her husband in a car accident, Brenda Richardson, her long-time best friend, next door neighbour and mentor, was diagnosed with cancer. Brenda makes her husband Cal promise to help Phyl out where he can and gets the same promise from Phyl. Cal's youngest daughter and Phyl's oldest are as close as sisters. This means that Cal and Phyl are together frequently.
With their pre-teen daughters praying and hoping, their friendship deepens to attraction and mutual respect. As they spend more time together they head slowly but surely toward love but there is a major problem – Cal has three children older than Phyl.
I am an accountant and a husband and father of four boys who likes to write Christian-friendly romances.
I grew up in a small town in northern Canada where there were a large number of characters and a constantly changing population.Being able to observe and assess people was an essential skill for small town life.
My mother taught me to read when I was four so she could get the housework done. My father taught me how to tell stories and my wife and sons have taught me the value of love.
My Christian faith informs my writing in many ways. The good guys model proper behaviour and limit themselves to kisses before marriage. Alcohol use is social and moderate, foul language is rare and gambling is not done - at least by Christians. For the bad guys, there are no limits to their language but unchaste behaviour is implied, not described.
While I grew up on a steady diet of science fiction and fantasy, it was my knowledge of small town characters and love of happy endings that steered me in the direction of writing romance.
My wife is still waiting for my first science fiction book and my teens are waiting for a sword and sorcery book. It may be a while.
This book is full of romance and grief but more about romance that is between 2 people who are getting over their spouses both dying and finding love between each other. A really beautiful romance book that I would recommend to others to read. I fell in love with this book!
