It is inconceivable that ten mere mortal fingers can create such a masterpiece of sound, writes the Kansas City Star on David Glen Hatch's musical prowess. Now he shares his insights from a lifetime of composing and performing music all over the world and experiencing its power both on and off the stage. A moving and memorable read, it's a must-have for music-lovers everywhere.
Two aspects of this very well written book deserve five stars: (1) the several missionary success stories when gospel teaching was combined with musical summits, and (2) the living illustrations of the essential necessity of teaching with love -- providing P.I.E. (praise, inspiration, and encouragement) rather than criticism or anything not entirely positive. Anyone considering studying music should read this book. They will learn a lot about the absolutely total commitment essential to musician success and even more about the resultant rewards. It is packed with detailed music history and lists of compositions that will live forever --presented in such a way as to attract my interest in learning more. Maurine and I were discussing buying copies for our daughters and sons to tutor them in being better teachers/parents/leaders; however, the last few dozen pages are probably a bit heavy and, if touched upon at first, might lead to the book simply sitting on a shelf -- hence, my four star rating.
