Bought a copy of this book to used as a reference guide for my perennials. Side note, I have a wider range of flowers then I realized.

A great companion book to Trees and Shrubs for Ilinois. It's small enough to take to the nursery with you; has great photos and sufficient information that you'll not only plant the plant in the right place but know how to propagate, fertilize and treat pests. A super great source book.
