WHAT A FANTASTIC PLOT BY A GREAT WRITER!!
I'm 51% done with The Fallen One: "Justice is the first in that prophecy, from the ancient Jaguar People. He is the Prince of Fire. Jess is one of the three sisters of the Jaguar witches who must help him to stop" LOVING THE PACING AND SUPERB CHARACTERIZATIONS!! Jess is a very well drawn protagonist- and the fantasy element is supremely rendered!!

Honestly, I didn't believe that I would love this book that much. A few months ago I won Dark Warrior: To Tame a Wild Hawk (Dark Cloth #1) and Doorway to the Triquetra (Children of Atlantis, Book One ) both written by Lenore Wolfe, but with my monster TBR pile and mega ''request review'' list, I wasn't able to read them... So when I start The Fallen one, I have no idea of the kind/style of writing, which paranormal creatures could be into this story, does Ms. Wolfe prefer male or female main character, what kind of action/plot I could read about, NOTHING!
I wasn't disappointed by this story, Oh no! If you're the kind of readers who love to be stuck it up into action non-stop, a mix of supernatural creatures with awesome powers, a background as good and well developed as Lord of the Ring (well, without the complexity of it!), you just find you're ''next to-be read'' book!
When I read the first few pages, we meet Justice, the male character and were not sure if he's a good guy or a bad guy. He's the typical, super handsome, muscular, too-good in combat/training and he just find he's totally awesome, beautiful, kick-ass mate Jes. Who doesn't want to do anything with him. Even if they are attracted to each other they soon realise they are fated mate. This part is of the story is not unusual to PNR. But the author is putting the emphasis on the ''war'' and the bad guy they will have to fight. When they meet each other: SPARKLES! Everything seems to start from this encounter and everything else is well integrated to give the reader what he want and need: a nice/good/interesting plot, a lot of action, well driven characters, important and stunning secrets are revealed... Wow, each chapter give you more information on this outstanding world created by this talented author: Lenore Wolfe. Such a great imagination/creativity, Ms. Wolfe knows how to please the readers with enough romance/action/suspense scenes! I don't know if it's just me and the fact that I'm so in love with vampires but all I can say is: I hope there will be a book about Dracon and Dana!!!!
This story is bigger than it appears! Jes and Justice have they little personal story and everything about the war, the legends and myths, discovery of family ties and secrets, the arrival of other factions of supernatural creature as vampires, shifters, witches, fae,... are embroidered around the main characters and everything seem to fit perfectly!
The only thing that bothers me a little was the fact that Jes and Justice didn't seems to have enough time together. Maybe I'm a freak of love/sex scenes, but it's cool to read about them. They spiced up everything :) But when we read this story, we all understand that the time/place wasn't the best at all!

The Fallen One is a Dark Fantasy/Urban Fantasy story set in Chicago. The story starts many years ago and centers on a tennage boy and his sisters. The first couple of chapters are very good and very gripping. Both Justice and Jes start out as very intriguing characters. As the story moves on, it becomes less engaging, characters begin to feel less interesting...more like plastic toys on a playmat.
The story world has vampires, Jaguar People, witches, and Fae. This is what I like, a story that blends elements from many mythologies into one the author can call her/his own. Story-wise, this one had a lot of great potential. The ideas and major characters give the author a lot to explore. Unfortunately, the story was forced into a very fast build-up and everyone quickly gets/masters powers and abilities just in time for the "final battle". This could easily have been lengthened and broken up into 3 or 4 stories so that all of the development could have happened at a more natural pace.
One plot thread that I despise (mostly because I see it in a large number of paranormal or urban fantasy stories) is the destined mate. The thought that everything comes down to destiny takes so much power away from the characters. This book doesn't stop there though...we also have characters fulfilling a prophesy! Really?? This is now two free-will killers in one story. I guess one or the other is ok, but both?
Another thing that totally irked me is the angsty, rambling, repetitive inner turmoil. the main characters spent page after page worrying, asking the same repetitive questions, and whining. This led to a lot of "telling" instead of "showing" a lot of major plot elements. Without a good scene to show us the nature of a villain or hero, we get a lot of pages of Jes or Justice thinking about these things so that we find out who the villain is and what he is capable of.
Lastly, there are typos in here and a few missing words/grammar mistakes. I don't have much of a problem with this because this is a beta version/advance copy. I am pretty sure that all of this will be cleaned up before the final version is released.
I have so many mixed feelings about this book. The story could have been great...the potential was there. I liked a lot of what was there. However, I will probably not ever read any of the sequels/related titles. Overall, I have to go down the middle with only 3 stars to balance what could have been with the wreck it became.

This book is the first in Ms. Wolfe’s Sons of the Dark Mother trilogy. It all starts with the gruesome murder of a gang. Everyone thinks it’s the result of gangs fighting, but Justice, the only survivor, knows something else is going on and whatever’s to blame might just be inside him.
Fast forward fifteen years and the girl who watched the murder scene when her father investigated, twenty-something-year-old Jes, is a detective who hasn’t forgotten the mystery was never solved. She knows who or, better said, what Justice is because she was gifted the same powers with the only difference that she hasn’t used them…yet. Even though she believes Justice to be a murderer, she vows to find him because there’s something she needs from him. Not only can he shed some light on what really happened on that fateful night fifteen years ago and why he was forced to turn at such a young age, he’s also the only person who knows something about her parents’ disappearance.
I’m a big fan of the paranormal /dark fantasy genre but that’s not why I liked this book so much. From the very beginning The Fallen One has an eerie gothic atmosphere and as the plot moves forward the tale becomes even spookier. The characters are deep and described in such vivid detail that I had no trouble imagining them. The setting is unique, and the background story is something that hasn’t been done before. What impressed me the most, however, was the writing. It’s easy to read but at the same time lyrical with beautiful description and the mystery that engulfs both Jes and Justice had me spell-bound. There’s plenty of action, drama, and a blossoming romance.
This is a must read and I’m looking forward to great things from this series. I hope the second book will be out soon.

First off lets get the technicalities out of the way. I was given this book to review by the Author. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any way for them.
That being said this is my review. This is the first in a planned trilogy of Dark Mother books. The Book Starts with the gruesome (albeit justifiable) murder of a local street gang. Justice the sole survivor of the attack is the one responsible but with no clue how and with sisters to protect he lets everyone believe it was a wild animal mauling or gang infighting that brought about the boys demise. Nobody would believe him anyway. To bad for Justice there was a witness and now 15 years later she wants to find him before time runs out.
I am a fan of Dark, Urban, paranormal fantasy and really went into this with high expectations. It was well written and descriptive, even the plot premise was good but...I never felt tied to the characters. It is usually not a good sign when from the very first page I felt indifferent. Do I feel the series has promise? Yes. Is it for me? No probably not. I will be giving this book 3 ★★★

This book starts out with the main character Justice fighting a gang who has had it out for him. While walking his sisters to school the gang descends on him, during the course of the battle something happens and Justice turns into a Jaguar and kills the gang.
Fast forward to the present time and Jes is looking for Justice, knowing what he is and wondering why he killed them. She mentions that Jaguars aren't suppose to kill humans. What Jes hasen't figured out is that her and Justice are soul mates. Their lives are very intertwined. Having both lost their parents when they were young it's no surprise that they would both be curious about what happened to them.
The sisters remind me of the television charmed with the power of three as the sister witches in this book have to use their powers to help unite the various factions of groups faeries, jaguars, vampires. When it seems neither group really trusts the others. This book was full of action, adventure, mystery and romance. Definitely a good book for people who enjoy paranormal, mystery, and romance.

This book has many different characters and information to absorb. It was very hard for me to get into. I wish the author spent more time talking about Justice and Jes.
The overall lesson learned is to make sure we take care of Mother Earth before she is no longer here for us to live on.
I found myself confused and lost many times in this book. I didn’t feel that I was invested in it since I jumps around a lot with so much information. It was like my brain was on over load.
The writing itself was good. This book just for me personally is not one that I really enjoyed. This book is book 1 of a trilogy. I do not think I’ll finish reading the series.

I have to say that at first it was a hard book to follow. I had to re-read some of the book to follow through with it. It seemed that there was so many threads that it was hard to get them all to mesh. It also seemed to me that there were so many points that the author wanted to make that it seemed as though there was no flow.
But in saying all this if you can push yourself through to the middle it does get easier. Not only does this book show the environmental impact we have on the planet it shows the evil we do to each other.

This was a good story. Fated mates, intrigue, and alot of unanswered questions. I loved the bookand look forward to reading the next in line.
