It's 1933, and Nashville, Tennessee is awash in the aftermath of Prohibition. Confidence men, gamblers, and other seedy characters are quick to take advantage of the new world of vice and illegal opportunity.
Amidst the chaos, private detectives Everett "The Eel" Jerzy and his partner, Michele, have established "Slaughterhouse Investigations." The name pays homage to the infamous speakeasy where the two first crossed paths, and the small office they occupy on the corner of 8th and Broadway is just a stone's throw from the luxurious Hermitage Hotel.
Their latest case is a doozy. Fresh off the murder of Judge Dunne's wife, the two are tasked with finding a young student who has been kidnapped. The desperate parents have come to them for help, and Jerzy and Michele hit the streets, relying on their vast network of criminal and law enforcement contacts to track down leads.
As they delve deeper, they soon discover that this case is unlike anything they've encountered before. The kidnapper is elusive and cunning, leaving few clues in their wake. Undeterred, the two detectives turn to Lewis Martini, an old friend from when “The Eel” and “The Rat” were both in the employee of The Butcher as ‘Collaborators’; Lewis still has his connections inside Nashville's criminal underworld.
But as they close in on the truth, Jerzy and Michele find themselves in the crosshairs of a crazed lunatic who will stop at nothing to protect their interests. With the stakes higher than ever, they refuse to back down. With Lewis' support, the two detectives face the danger head-on, determined to bring the kidnapper to justice and solve the case that will secure their place as Nashville's premier private detectives.
