An engaging and educational read about European travelers to the Middle East. Beginning with Napolesn and ending with T.E. Lawrence. Sandwiched in between are Charles Doughty, Jane Digby, Hester Stanhope, the Blunts and the Burtons. Each had a very different experience. Lots of history. A great 'jumping off' book with a great bibliography.
