Even though it was published in 1987, it would be a mistake to believe that Ballpark Figures is totally outdated. The focus on the origins of the Toronto Blue Jays, especially their ownership group and executives, is fascinating. It is clear what the Blue Jays viewed as a company philosophy in those days. Being taken through the operations of the Minor Leagues, scouting and Spring Training are all very educational. The arbitration process, specifically the claims that pitcher Dennis Lamp had that the team benched him to not have to pay incentives, was absolutely fascinating. It remains one of the greatest eras of Blue Jays baseball and seeing the team, pre SkyDome, struggle with making some money was interesting. Although the dollar figures that were being talked about were very outdated, Ballpark Figures remains a very interesting read.
