The gross-out antics of these two Yuck adventures take disgusting to a new level!
In “Yuck’s Amazing Underpants,” Yuck has been wearing his favorite underpants every day and every night—for six weeks. His mom desperately wants to do laundry but Yuck has other With the help of a jar of mold, his underpants are soon taking on a life of their own.... And in “Yuck’s Scary Spider,” Yuck’s spider is big, fat, and hairy, and everyone is afraid of it. But the spider is only trying to be friendly! When the school principal traps the spider under a glass in his office, Yuck plans a major rescue mission. Can he and his friends save the spider?
Matthew Morgan (Matt) and David Sinden (Dave) co-developed and wrote the YUCK stories. They're lifelong friends who met at a primary school sports day and grew up in Kent. Matt and Dave both worked in children's publishing before turning to fulltime writing. They also write AN AWFULLY BEASTLY BUSINESS series with their friend Guy MacDonald.
I'll say this much - it takes some effort to make Captain Underpants look highbrow, but there you have it. Yuck is, well, grosser than gross. He's dirty, he plays with slugs and eats worms, he has underwear that is so dirty it becomes sentient...
I don't know. I love Captain Underpants. I really enjoyed The Day My Butt Went Psycho. This just seems like it's gross for gross's sake, and maybe I'm becoming too much of an old man these days, but this really didn't work for me.
Yuck is right! I have no problems with the likes of Captain Underpants and George Brown, Class Clown a.k.a. Super Burp. Yuck, however was just not good. It was gross and disgusting, which I am sure some 2nd grade boys will like. As a parent and a children's librarian, I really don't see much in this book. Interestingly enough, my 1st grade son - who likes bathroom humor with the best of them - would not even touch it, he thought the cover was even too gross for him.
Yuck is quite the little bastard. He tortures his sister and annoys anyone that crosses his path. From his stinky moldy underwear to his fat hairy spider. Maybe Yuck needs to learn some manners, but what a heck of a vivid imagination.
Disgusting for the sake of being disgusting, with an incredibly unlikable main character. I get that the disgusting part is highly intentional, but that didn’t make it any more enjoyable to read.
