Based on a conference held at the U. of British Columbia (Vancouver) in June 1991, this collection of essays by contemporary philosophers is a sampling of recent important work on Bertrand Russell (1872-1970) and his influence. Most of the studies are interpretive. Some place Russell within his historical context; others probe the internal tensions that often underpin his intellectual growth. The volume is divided into four denoting, names, and descriptions; mind and unity; logicism and logic; and the beginning of analytic history. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
