Exploring the film settings of one of the most popular comedy teams in American history, The Three Stooges: Hollywood Filming Locations documents the sites of the Stooges' most famous Columbia Pictures short films made in and around Hollywood between 1934 and 1958.
These famous and hilarious shorts are covered in detail through a wealth of archival photographs, many of which are rare and previously unpublished. Also included are candid shots, vintage publicity stills, screen captures from films, contemporary photographs, aerial views, and maps detailing the various filming locations.
Featuring exclusive quotes from the Three Stooges' directors, supporting actors, and family members, this collection is a treasure trove of memorabilia for the Stooges fan and an important document in Hollywood's cinematic history.
A triumph of nerdishness. The author tracks down the actual locations of dozens of Three Stooges shorts. Includes a number of charming publicity photos as well as anecdotes. For that matter, the idea of connecting the Stooges’ bizarre alternate universe with real-world places is itself charming.
DNF. I had to get this book back to the library from which I borrowed it so I couldn't finish it-- BUT that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. It is definitely a book that would probably be most interesting to a die-hard fan but for those who are curious it's a fun book LOADED with pictures and some behind-the-scene facts.
This is an excellent book for "Stooges" fans, but not really a book you would read from cover to cover. After a smart introduction by Leonard Maltin, the author sets out the scope of the book - examining the shooting locations of many (but not all) Stooges short films. I found the best way to read the book is to read the chapter on a specific film, then watch that film to look for the things mentioned in the text. B&w photos on every page help to explain further, and add interest for those who just want to browse through the book. The author does a great job with a relatively technical and detailed subject.
This is a true "keeper" for the Three Stooges fan. Well-researched, lots of photographs, and all sorts of new trivia to add to your storehouse of useless Stoogephilia!
