Waterfall

Meet Sergeant Mark Truitt. Mark is a police investigator, husband, and father who began his career as a high school teacher but ultimately decided on a career in law enforcement. Good at getting the bad guys off the street, Mark's challenging, but fairly predictable life abruptly changes one morning with an assignment to investigate an apparent suicide. From this point on, Mark and his partner and best friend, Jamie Littlebird will take an incomprehensible trip into a murky and evil world of greed, violence, and deception.

This was a nice effort by a new author. I think he tried to cover a little too much and the book would have been served better if he just stuck to the main story which was good by itself. I found myself heartily agreeing with all of the social and political commentary but I don't think it was really necessary to the actual story. I must say that I am probably a little biased since I went to school with the author but I also know that of the 100 books I read this year, I would rank it right in the middle. At least it's not in the 20% I rejected. I hope David Zini continues to write. I would give this book a 6.5 on my 10 scale.
