Rate this book
With the abundance of conflicting advice out there, it's easy to see why people struggle with dieting. Dieters want clarity, they want to be told what to do. Women's Health contributing editor and author of The O2 Diet and The Slim Calm Sexy Diet Keri Glassman gives readers the 8 simple rules to lose the weight for good.

While what we eat is very important (and The New You and Improved Diet includes a step-by-step, 8-week meal plan, full of real foods that are nutrient dense and antioxidant rich) —that's just one part of a successful weight-loss strategy. Keri walks readers through the other all-important rules to get stronger, calmer, healthier, more balanced and yes, thinner .

Each rule is connected to and supports the others. The more you sleep, the more energy you have at the gym, the more weight you lose. The more you choose nutrient-dense food, the more focused your workouts become, the deeper you sleep. Using common-sense wisdom and easy, practical application, The New You and Improved Diet shows you how to make connections between these rules to totally reset your body's compass. Including a cleanse to jumpstart the diet, detailed menus, recipes, and tons of simple tips to stay on track, Keri walks readers through the only 8 rules they'll ever need to know to find their best body ever.

Not as informative as I would have liked..... I did like the 8 week plan with the meals and motivational quotes or ideas in the back but I had expected more I guess. She is very informative though for people who are new to dieting and she gives a lot of biological reasons for everything which is cool. I think I would have appreciated it more if I hadn't read like every single Biggest Loser Book/seen every show before hand :-).

It does have some ideas i am trying to implement like dressing in a way to make you feel amazing everyday, and cuddling more. I did like her diet plan in that it has snacks. i also like the idea of adding a small salad to the main meal. She does have a weird obbsession with the number 8, and doesn't incorperate as much fruit as i would like, but overall i feel very positive about the book.

I found it really helpful. I will use this as a reference book for antioxidant rich foods. She does a great job of explaining how antioxidants can protect us against air pollution, the harmful effects of the sun in addition to aging and disease. This book has changed the way I think about eating. She is right about the post-world war II fake foods. If you cut those foods out and move towards a plant-based, antioxidant rich diet, you feel fuller, look better and have more energy. Plus, there are great recipes. I would definitely recommend this book to friends. Also, I found her explanation of why it is important to use glass instead of plastic helpful as well.

I like the basic ideas of her 8 tenets for health, but I don't like the promises that people will lose X amount of weight. Everyone is unique, that kind of thing can't be promised. I also think the meal plans are too restrictive to be healthy.

Keri's system of nutrition works for her. I appreciate that, but the reader keeps hearing the wonder of that ad infinitum throughout her breathlessly written work.
Yes, this is the only takeaway I have from this lightly tossed salad of a book.
