Over 25 years ago, I married a Jewish guy, and wanted to find a cookbook that would help me make some of the dishes he grew up with. While browsing through the cookbook section of a bookstore, a woman looking through the same section recommended this book to me. I will forever be thankful to that woman, because this book has become my go-to for countless recipes over the years. The recipes are easy to follow, and the author’s comments on each one are a treasure in themselves.

The no-frills bible of Jewish cooking! Mama Leah (Leah Loeb Fischer) is a close family friend who owned several blintz shops in NYC. Her blintzes are famous, but the rest of her recipes are just as reliable. Ashkenazi Jewish cooking at its simplest and truest. Easy to follow.
