About the author

Vickie Taylor wrote her first novel in 1997. Upon completion, she was too chicken to give the manuscript to anyone she knew to read, so she sent her baby off to a few contests to get some anonymous feedback instead. Little did she know how her life was about to change: a few months later, she had won all four of the Romance Writers of America chapter contests she’d entered, was a Golden Heart finalist and had sold the book to Silhouette Intimate Moments!

Since then, Vickie has written numerous romantic suspense novels for Silhouette Books and Berkley Sensation, garnering such recognition as the Daphne du Maurier Award of Excellence in Romantic Suspense, a four-and-a-half star “Top Pick” review in Romantic Times, and a coveted RWA Rita nomination for her work.

In 2006, Vickie continued her acclaimed paranormal series featuring Les Gargouillen (the Gargoyles) with FLESH AND STONE, the sequel to the smashing debut CARVED IN STONE. The third book in the series, LEGACY OF STONE, is now on bookstore shelves everywhere.

Vickie lives in a small town in north Texas dubbed “The Heart of Horse Country” where she rounds out her writing days raising horses, volunteering with the local Humane Society, and serving on a K-9 search and rescue team

I enjoyed this book, it had a lot of potential and I will be checking out other books by this author.

FBI agent Jason has been undercover for months to bust some illegal electronic trade operation, when he finds a woman caught by the goons he is working with, he thinks quickly and passes her off as his girlfriend only to find her turn on the gun at him in the car and find that she is no innocent bystander but a Atlanta PD Detective who has been following him.

Once everything is cleared up, Jason finds himself in the middle of his own personal nightmare, partnered with Lane(he has an aversion to partners), so he tries to limit her involvement, sometimes pissing her off, apologizing etc

Lane is a good cop also studying to be a psychologist and joined the force to deal with issues she had with her drunk, absent, now-dead cop father. So, she tries to figure out Jason, finally concluding he is on the edge, works alone, after he lost his partner.

But she soon comes to acknowledge over the course of the book that some issues may lie with her and her father, so even when she forces Jason to open up about his partner, who was also the woman he loved, she backs off.

The book wasn't perfect and I liked Lane and sometimes I didn't but I liked the writing.

Fast moving suspense. Steamy romance. Good characters. What wasn't to like about this book. 4 stars.
