It took me what seemed like forever to finish this book, but I must admit that I ignored it for days (maybe even weeks) at a time. I just had too many other books on my list...
This is an entertaining and informative book about cats. We are avid cat fans, so I figured that it would just reinforce what we already knew and help our girls take better care of their kittens. But it really has so much information that I had never known before.
The book is laid out in a quiz format, with each quiz having approximately ten questions (some more, some less). Some of the quizzes are true/false, some are multiple choice, and a few are match up kinds of questions. At the end of the book, the reader is invited to add up all of the scores from the various quizzes and determine how well she (or he) knows cats.
The categories of quizzes range from cat characteristics to cat care to cat trivia to cat history. There's a section for every stage of a cat's life, from birth to death, and even one that helps the reader determine readiness to adopt a new cat after the death of a beloved pet.
Overall, I thought this was a good book to read for a cat owner. The quizzes are short and the book can be read in many short sessions without losing continuity. The authors provide solid information and advice, and a little bit of humor, too.
Our youngest actually picked out this book to read and I read a few quizzes aloud with our girls, but they didn't want me to read them all to them, so I finished the book on my own. We probably read about a third of the book together, and they liked the information, but not the question/answer format. (Perhaps I wouldn't, either, if I was constantly taking tests in school too).
