His Mortal Soul

Rate this book
Can she save his immortal soul... and help him find heaven on earth?

Touching Sephora may cost Kieran his soul… Kieran has always been a good Catholic, even studying for the priesthood. But there are complications. A few weeks before his ordination into the priesthood, he was made a vampire. And then there's Sephora, the beautiful, independent American student who draws him to her. His "blackbird", she seems to hold all the secrets to life and happiness, like the mythological creature of the ancient Celts. Despite his best intentions and though he knows he can only hurt her, her hold on him increases by the minute.

Although Ireland promised Sephora an escape from the horrors of a brutal attack she suffered two years previously, she has discovered that the true scars lie within. But being with Kieran melts away the pain and his touch provides her the refuge to reclaim her body.

A gorgeous Irish hero and gutsy heroine. Biblical and religious themes that might offend.

This is a very good short story. It has erotic, paranormal, and a soon to be priest. For some reason I have a thing for priest, it's that forbidden love, that I have for it.
This book has a vampire twist.

Lorcan is a vampire, in orientation to become a priest. And an Irish priest at that.. Okay... Okay.. I'll stop my dirty thought. BUT I don't have to cause A.C. Mason has then written down in this book. I really enjoyed it. My only issue is that it's so short!!! I would have liked it to be longer so I can have more of Sephora and Lorcan together.

If your looking for a short erotic, paranormal with hot Irish priest then this is your book. :)

His Mortal Soul by a.c. Mason

Bless me Father for I have sinned. We all have; so be free. This passage comes to my mind each time I think of the book His Mortal Soul by a.c. Mason. His Mortal Soul is set in the lush and foggy, picturesque background on one of Ireland's college campus.

Sephora Silverman is an American young woman who is working on her Master's degree in Ireland. This choice to study aboard is haunting plea for freedom from some horrible events she endured in her past. Being a graduate student in the cool temperature and calmness of Ireland one night appears to have the essence of the horrific past Sephora was desperately trying to escape. Sephora is being encouraged to go back to the dorm with the assistant of Patrick who is also attending the university with carnal intentions. Sephora realizes through her haziness that something must have been slipped in her drink and rebuffs Patrick's plans for the evening.
Remember the key rule when partying never leave your drink unattended. Oops !! The next rule when a woman says “NO” that is what she means and respect that. Patrick forgets the rule and his memory is jarred by a brick wall.

Ms. Mason's characters are very likable and sincere in their actions and dreams. The settings are simply and uncluttered allowing the reader to focus on the characters and their struggles and triumphs. Ms. Mason teases all of your sensory neurons. Her writing is not the usual, predictable paranormal romance but one that takes you to another sensual world.

Sephora is a coca brown, with deep soulful brown eyes. exquisite, intelligent, resilient young woman from America.

Lorcan Kieran is a hunk of an Irish man, tall, great ripped body and he is on a mission he believes is his calling from Heaven. Deacon Kieran is an Irish Catholic attending the seminary and is about to totally commit his life to God tomorrow by his ordination.

Father O'Brian a mentor understands the worldly desires that can make a totally commitment to the church challenging for young men. Ms. Mason's secondary but important character.

Kieran pops out of the darkness the night before his ordination rescuing Sephora from the unholy plans of Patrick from a student gathering where Sephora and other students are chilling out. After helping Patrick understand rule number two that “NO” means just that; being a gentleman Kieran escorts Sephora back to her dorm room.
Sephora is aware of Kieran's pending ordination engages him in conversation out of pure curiosity about Kieran's sexual experiences. Kieran has no interest in women so this commitment of abstinence really is not going to be a true sacrifice for him. Similarly, Sephora has had no interest in men since her horrible experiences. Are they kindred spirits? Sephora feels drawn to him on the deepest level and she has never felt this way about any man.
Kieran also feels the magnetic, raw physical sexually charged energy between them. Should these two individuals go with the flow of the sexual tension they feel or should they abandon the notions of having a forbidden encounter? Kieran prepares to leave Sephora's room to head back to the seminary when out of this strange sense of excitement, fear of the unknown pushes Sephora to become daring and she blocks the door as he tries to leave before committing a sin of the flesh and become another Adam; she the next Eve. Throwing caution to the wind surrendering to the physical need what impact on their lives is in store for them if the unimaginable, unpredictable happens tonight? Could her desire and need for Keiran be out of a selfishness to release the demons of her painful past or is she just trying to bless him with a blissful experience before he takes that huge leap of faith?

Kieran has an old-fashion charm that can make any woman lose her panties. His gentle, tender yet strong manner was so intoxicating. His skin is delightfully cool to the touch, his eyes as blue as the majestic Caribbean sea. His touch upon Sephora's cheeks creates a fire that goes deep to the marrow in her bones. Sephora's limited experiences with men leaves her with the impression; men are not really capable of being unselfish lovers, allowing a woman to go to the depth of ecstasy that is so freeing.

Kieran thoughts of Sephora have been sinful fantasies for two weeks after their first encountered on the bridge. Kieran can't get her out of his mind but oh God he tries however his fantasies drives him wild with desire that intensifies each time he sees her from afar. There is a powerful unknown current generated between Sephora and Kieran. He can sense the pain she has experienced and he doesn't know why.

Ms. Mason is a very prolific author and her writing style is so captivating as she blends cultural diversities into her stories. She touches all of your sensory elements and weaves a spine tingling, heart thumping read.

I completely savored the book His Mortal Soul it possessed me placing me under its spell from the first few sentences. Then I met Deacon Loran Kieran, I, too wanted him and his electrifying innocence.
Ms. Mason builds passion, tenderness and deep emotions taking the reader on a exhilarating ride of sensuality. I found the dichotomies a driving force in the book His Mortal Soul. There are many elements embedded in His Mortal Soul that cross many of societal, cultural and religious lines that made the book so delicious. Ms. Mason prepares a sensual buffet that is impossible to resist. She has done it again, this is a sizzler with different flavors that keep you hungry and coming back for more of the hot, delectable feast. Just make sure you bless the feast before indulging. :-)

My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts as I went with the book...

a.c. Mason’s erotic paranormal romance, His Mortal Soul was a short and quick read. I liked the premised quite a lot, even though Vampires aren’t my thing. Liked the author’s writing too, as she very ably held my interest throughout the story.

One of the best things of this story was definitely the H, Kieran. He was just so sweet and good, though a little confused about his life’s purpose. Initially, I thought that the h, Sephora was a tortured soul who needed some salvation. But as I read on, I could see that both Kieran and Sephora needed to become one-another’s balm from the pain life caused them.

What confused me a little was the starting of the story. Sephora is in Ireland and studying in a university. She lives alone and hasn’t been with any man ever since something distressing happened to her a couple of years earlier. So when some guy made her all drunk on an outing to have his way with her, Kieran comes to her rescue. He was introduced to her after an incident earlier and has been watching her for sometimes now. There’s something about Sephora that Kieran can’t deny. He’s attracted to her with all his being, even that demon that lurks inside him. It wants her, and in every sort of wrong way possible.

When Sephora is saved, she recognizes Kieran. She also acknowledges that she’s attracted to him, something that surprised her a little... understandably, sex hasn’t been her priority for a while. But Kieran is sexy and he speaks Gaelic so soothingly, all Sephora can do is to melt. As he escorts her to her apartment, Kieran and Sephora talk. And the talks lead to something else entirely.

Kieran is going to be sworn into priesthood the next day. He’s also a vampire, and so, he’s basically waiting for his death. He knows he can’t have any kind of future with her anyway. What if she knows his real identity? So, being with Sephora, bathing in her shining light might be his only way to salvation, even if for such a short time. And this is what he wants to remember as the last thing he did on Earth. Kieran could also detect the imprint of Sephora’s past, which makes him sad and absolutely angry on her behalf. He vows to help her through it so that she remembers their time as something special.

Now, I was confused about some things; some of these were answered in the end, some didn’t. When did Kieran become a vampire? How long has he been living in this earth? But he hasn’t obviously aged much. I’m still not sure if his transformation happened a long time ago or not. Also, how come he was still a virgin? Umm, maybe because I haven’t read a lot of vampire novels, I got a bit confused about it. I always thought sex and drinking blood is something they can’t go without at all. Most especially if those are done together. Here, things didn’t seem that way for Kieran.

Honestly, I was glad that she was his first. And I thank the author for making the love scenes, especially the ones with that specific ritual, so sexy because I never liked it before in the few vampire books I’ve read. Absolutely detested it when OWs where involved in this with the H. In here, it seemed so very special because Kieran was sharing this experience with Sephora only, and she really wanted to become the only person he turns to for his needs; all kinds.

I think a few more pages would’ve made this story a little solid, especially on the romance part. I would’ve loved to see their attraction grow gradually but here, Kieran and Sephora’s romance/declaration of love felt a bit too rushed for my liking. And the possibility of Sephora’s immortality to be with Kieran? Well, I don’t know what to think of that. 3.75 stars, and I’m going to look into some more of ACM’s other works later.

I was provided a review copy by the author in exchange of an honest review. I’d like to thank her for it.

Good emotional and sexual intimacy with elements exploring healing after sexual assault. The vampire elements were perfectly balanced with the religious and spiritual components. Fans of erotic romance will love this short story.

This was my first time reading anything by author, a.c. Mason so I did not know what to expect. The book cover (dark skinned AAF) drew me in and once I read the beginning chapters the inter-religion kept me intrigued. His Mortal Soul is a good twist on a paranormal read where (H) Kieran wrestles with his destiny and (h) Sephora struggles with demons from her past; it's interesting to see who rescues who.

I don't want to give any spoilers away but will say I wish the church scene didn't read like a cheesy movie moment. I also wished main and secondary characters were a bit more flushed out and the ending was different- more concrete.

Even though for me there were some execution flaws, all in all I did enjoy my first experience with a.c. Mason's His Mortal Soul and will check out other works by her. I recommend this to anyone into location (Ireland) based books, vampires, priest, or interracial/multicultural reads. His Mortal Soul gets 3.5 stars upgraded to 4 for a paranormal read that incorporates Catholicism, angst filled themes, and morals all in an engaging short.

In this book Kieran is intercepted by a woman on his daily run that asks him if he thought everyone was deserving of God's forgiveness. When he responded from the depth of his heart she attacked him and turned him a vampire at only weeks away from his ordination into priesthood. When he couldn't take it anymore (he saw himself a demon by his faith) he decided to jump a bridge not knowing that God had other plans for him.

Sephora swears she saw someone jump the bridge. But the only person there was Deacon Lorcan Kieran at the other end. After that day he is not far from her mind. He has awakened in her a longing she thought lost after she was attacked. When she goes out to have some fun and is almost attacked again it is Kieran who comes to her aid.

After a night of passion Kieran is ready to leave this earth in order to protect her. But is she ready to let him? Or will she be to late?

What I liked about this book is that we brown skinned girls got to have a HEA. I mean, why is it always a pale girl who gets the hot tanned man? What I didn't liked much was how fast she found out about him. But I guess not all books can be the same, right? That would be boring.

at first I though to myself well i'm going to let this read linger because i'm not into the whole religion read. as I kept reading this book became more appearing to me, with the hero being overbearing on his religion views. heroine let her hang up past affect interact with others.
