2013 Winner of the Indie Readers Discovery Award! "DOGS HAVE ANGELS TOO reveals what these four-legged creatures give to us, which hopefully will unlock the hearts of the unfamiliar to shelter." -- Barbara Mcree, CEO of Mutt Madd-ness No-Kill Rescue In this novel set in the dog-eat-dog world of recessionary New York City, the irrepressible Miss Pink leads a pack of down-on-their-luck women who ultimately find hope in the most unlikely of an over-crowded animal shelter, where unwanted pets are routinely abandoned to their grim fates. Miss Pink, a former marketing executive and divorcee who is intermittently homeless herself, makes it her mission to find homes for a growing bevy of cuddly canines. Her "adoption walks" bring her to meet a series of fellow New Yorkers, all of whom are struggling with their own personal and financial crises. In other words, they are all uniquely ripe for recruitment in Miss Pink's master plan- which she's devising on the fly, by the seat of her favorite pink pants! "Miss Pink's passion for her two-legged and four-legged friends in an affirming message of love, will and triumph. May we all find our own heart of Miss Pink." - Cynthia Chauvin Miles, author of The 10 Ways to Get and Keep Your Man DOGS HAVE ANGELS TOO is fun, quirky read, dedicated to people who wish to redefine their lives by helping animals in need. A heart-warming comedy of errors for dog lovers of the twenty-first century. . . A percentage of the proceeds from sales of this book will be donated to animal shelter and rescue organizations.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the book when the author offered me a copy for a fair review. However, I must say, I was quickly and entirely gripped by Miss Pink’s story and have fallen in love with her and her love of all living things. She’s certainly a woman after my own heart.
If you love dogs, you will enjoy this sweet story of perseverance and tenacity, and I urge all who love stories of strong women taking control of their own lives to read this book. You won’t be disappointed.
Dogs Have Angels Too is a moving and witty novel that captures the healing power of rescue dogs and the people who love them. Narrated by Miss Pink, a woman rebuilding her life after personal loss, the story blends humor, heart, and hope in a way that feels both uplifting and real. Sarah Cavallaro’s writing reminds us that sometimes the angels we need most walk beside us on four paws.
Let me start by saying I am not an animal person. Taking on this book pushed me to read a topic I would normally pass. I am very glad that I did not pass on this book.
Ms. Pink, not her real name, loses her husband to his mistress, then loses her job to a merger. Her pride got in the way and she refused a severance package. When her money runs out and she is forced to leave her apartment and most of her belongings behind, she finds herself homeless.
Ms. Pink struggles to find any job and starts volunteering at an animal shelter. She becomes an advocate for the dogs, an angel of sorts. She manages to find other people who are down on their luck and give them a purpose. The story tells how even when down on your luck you can make the world a better place for animals and people.
This story is an eye opening story on how when things look bad there is a silver lining to be found. Ms. Pink comments that things are better this week than last week. Her life struggles are very real to many people. Even losing her husband and high powered job are not enough to break her or keep her down. If you are an animal lover this book is a definitely a have to read. If you are like me, not an animal lover, and are just looking for a good book to read, this book it for you.
I received a copy of Dogs Have Angels Too in exchange for an honest review.
My Review: I enjoyed this book because I think a lot of people can relate to it – hurt by the economy, feeling down on yourself, and trying to find a way to still be inspired and upbeat. Miss Pink was a nice character that manages to still have drive after all she goes through, and that was nice to read about. I am a dog lover, so that aspect always made me smile. With all that said, something just seemed lacking in the book to me. Sometimes I couldn’t connect with the writing, and I found myself drifting away at a few different points while reading. Still an enjoyable read though, and one I especially think animal lovers would enjoy.
