About the author

Economist Dr. Clive Y Thomas is professor at the University of Guyana, where he serves as director of the Institute for Development Studies. A distinguished professor, Clive Thomas is renowned for his work in monetary and financial economics in dependent developing economies, particularly those of the Caribbean.

As a social and political activist, he and historian Walter Rodney co-founded the Working People's Alliance (WPA), a political party aimed at fighting a repressive regime in 1970s Guyana.
He writes Guyana and the Wider World, a weekly column in the Stabroek News.

A criminally understudied figure in Caribbean political history. This study, in light of political developments in Guyana and Grenada, broke new ground and while it is not without flaws, it pushed forward our understanding of authoritarianism in the postcolonial caribbean

I wouldn't say I "enjoyed" this, it is a very dense book, I had to do a lot of side research to understand some parts, but I learned a lot. So that would probably make it a win in my book.
