When I graduated from the Omega Academy, I had options.
Sure, as a Class-B Fertile, I’d never get top dollar from our local alpha packs, but I was the next best option after all the Class-A omegas were claimed.
Until someone else let Dad name his price.
As an omega, I always expected to be bought and sold—but not like this.
Not to a shifter breeding facility.
The men in charge want to save the tigers. With their wilder halves almost extinct, tiger shifters aren’t far behind, and the fate of their species is in my hands.
Apparently.
It’s absurd. It’s insulting.
But it’s my new reality.
A reality I suffer with two unbonded alpha tiger shifters who hate sharing territory—but who hate being treated like animals even more. While Luther is suspicious of me from the start, Oryn quickly takes me under his wing and shares the key to our survival.
No touching.
No mating.
No knotting.
Abstinence is resistance.
It’s worked for them before, but I’m the first omega ever forced into heat and thrown to the beasts. After years of refusing to breed with anyone, I’m the perfumed pawn sent to break these two kings.
So, we fight.
We resist.
But our captors have all the power, and no matter how hard we ignore the call, it’s only a matter of time before instinct takes over…
And we surrender to the roles we were born to play.
Sacrifice is a dark shifter omegaverse romance set in the Extinction Omegaverse world. Here, you’ll find such tropes as Hurt/Comfort, Found Family, Us against the World, and Forced Proximity. This is an MFM romance, which means two heroes, one heroine, no love triangle.
Please The overall series is not “dark”, but Sacrifice has themes and scenarios leveled against the MCs that may be triggering to some readers.
Rhea Watson is a Canadian paranormal romance author who writes lone wolves and found family, fated mates and forever love. She dreams about living in a cottage in the woods that would make any fairytale witch jealous, and wishes every day was Halloween.
In her spare time, Rhea babies her herb garden, watches hilariously bad horror movies with her own hero, bows to her cat's every whim, and flies through Netflix shows like it's her day job.
Rating: 4/5 Spice: 3.5/5 I can’t get over this story! This is a standalone, but this story had me completely captivated. From the plot, to the characters I couldn’t get enough. This is my first read from Rhea Watson and I can assure you it won’t be my last! Eve, our FMC was an absolute peach to read about. She was strong-willed, and passionate. Being through so much, but being able to make the best of it in the end. She was able to keep her mind on her and her men’s survival. The male leads, Luther and Oryn were so adorable! I love myself a cinnamon roll alpha. Make it two!? I’m sold! They had suffered so much. Sold, and kept captive. Having to suppress their most primal instincts. They are both super strong, mentally and physically. Their love for Eve made my heart soar. Willing to protect her through anything even though they were suffering too. I think the plot was very interesting. The world and the conflict between supes and humans was unique for me! I did enjoy it. Knowing shifters were going extinct, especially the tigers, and the lengths people will go in order to preserve that species is disgusting. For others who would like to read this, read trigger warnings before diving in. Cannot wait for the next story Rhea Watson! Will 100% devour it like I did this one.
Eve thought she had it all, until an ultimate act of betrayal from her father causes her to be thrown to the wolves…or in this case tigers.
Forced to be in a cage with two alpha tiger shifters: Eve, Luther, and Oryn try to give the proverbial FU to their captors by fighting their natural instincts and resist breeding.
It’s only a matter of time before their alpha and omega instincts become too hard to resist….
My heart broke for Oryn and Luther for all the suffering they’ve been through. I enjoyed watching how Eve impacted them upon her arrival and seeing a shift in dynamic as bonds began to slowly form.
Sacrifice brings a dark paranormal twist to omegaverse. If you’re looking for something sweet this is definitely not it. I look forward to more from the Extinction Omegaverse world.
Readers got a taste of Rhea Watson's version of an omegaverse world with her holiday novella Mistletoe, and I freaking loved it. Now she's back with her first full omegaverse novel set in the same world. Sacrifice was heart-wrenching at times but I ate it up.
Eve is a "good" (human) omega. She attended the Omega academy and did what she was told but when her life takes a horrific turn she shows more backbone than I expected. Eve doesn't crumble, she makes the best of the situation, even during the darkest of times Eve is caring and patient, she gives her whole heart.
Two tiger shifters come into Eve's life, Oryn, and Luther. Oryn is sweet but with a dark streak, I liked him from the start. As for Luther, he takes some getting used to, he's a grump but after being at the lab for a while, I can understand why. It took a minute but I like Luther, I just kind of drowned in his sadness which endured him to me. While both are obviously dangerous, they treat Eve with such care, they even have to fight their feelings for her in order to protect her.
The plot is very character driven. The three of them in the lab, banning together to whether whatever the lab tries to throw at them. Find happiness where they can and forming impossible bonds. There is also a nervous energy because you know the research facility isn't the good guys, they obviously do not care about anyone's rights human or otherwise. So the question is what are they up to. With their manipulation, experiments, testing, and human trafficking among other things.
I am freaking traumatized. Rhea savage my emotions until I was a sobbing mess at the end of this book. Characters I couldn't help but care for and sympathize with, caught in a seemingly never-ending nightmare. Then the truth of this monstrous experiment is revealed and it's devastating. Gods, Rhea did me so dirty. She like "Here, read this book. You'll love it but it's going to destroy you. Have a lovely day." But it was so worth it. Sacrifice was one of those books that just brings out all the emotions. Rhea granted mercy with a HEA for Eve and her guys, even the epilogue had me all in my feelings.
I loved Sacrifice! The story was fascinating, with a lot of impactful moments. One of my favorite aspects about this series so far is that Rhea is very detailed about this world. Sacrifice is just the beginning of this magnificent world. Rhea gave readers hints about all the big plans she has for this world and I, for one, can't wait.
So fortunate to have received an ARC of this book.
This was a deeply emotional read, the desolation and hopelessness the characters felt was really just rampantly leaping from the pages. What made this book both a joy and a study in contrast was the sweetness and purity that was the relationship and bond between our darling 3, set in such a bleak environment and situation.
The only reason I did not give this lovely book a fifth star ⭐️ is that a kind of felt like it ended abruptly. The time jump to the epilogue that subsequently explained how they reached their HEA made it feel like I missed out on a big chunk of story. So I guess, really, my critique is basically just wanting more 😅 Overall though I loved Sacrifice, it further cements the fact that I will literally read anything Rhea Watson decides to write.
First time reading this author and I thought this was really well written. Because of the circumstances the characters are in, I felt like most of this story was heavy and sad. I was really curious as to how things would wrap up and I'm satisfied enough with the ending, but felt that it was rushed. For all that they went through, I wish we had a longer instance of life after their ordeal. It was more telling than showing in the end; hence why I think it was rushed. Still, overall a very enjoyable story with great characters. I definitely recommend giving this a go if you're into omegaverse/shifter stories.
Not your usual OV! *Menage *Omegaverse *multi-pov *tiger shifters *non shifting FMC *forced proximity *breeding programme *bond building *slow burn 🔥 high heat 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ *standalone This is not a sweet and cosy Omegaverse read so please don’t pick this up if that’s what you are after! But it’s a good read and different spin on Omegaverse that I finished in one day!😄 We have our FMC Eve who’s essentially been thrown into the tigers den without a choice and is there to tempt the two lone tiger shifter alphas for this corporations breeding programme 😖😖 but as an act of defiance through abstinence these three have to fight their natural instincts and everything that the staff throw at them and really push their boundaries 😫😫 The forced proximity certainly creates connections between Eve, Oryn the flirty cheerful all rounder Alpha and Luther the broody tortured leader, more so than they ever expected - like o say they have to avoid copulation but with their alpha and omega instincts then some smeggsy stuff definitely happens🌶️🌶️ but more so their shared trauma of the pen create real connections between them 🥰 You do get a HEA but honestly at times you seriously wonder if it’s coming! A great gritty Omegaverse.
✨ARC Review ✨ *** Thank you to Rhea Watson for the ARC to review. ** Sacrifice was good. This was my first book by this author and set in this world. It was definitely a slow burn read but the storyline was so good. I loved how well all three characters fit. They fell for each other and accept their fate slowly but surely. The ending was so sweet and the HEA left my heart happy. *** ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ***
This book is SO GOOD. The villains make you want to slap them, and poor Oryn and Luther have suffered so much. I love that Eve wants to take care of them just as much as they want to take care of her, and the burgeoning bond (also between the alphas) was so fun to watch. I loved seeing Oryn and Luther in both forms, and the ending even before the epilogue is so satisfying.
An interesting story of an omega and her two alphas. Luther and Oryn are not your typical alphas either, they’re tiger shifters and are pretty much extinct. There are nefarious people who are keeping the alphas captive under the guise of a voluntary repopulation program. When Eve is sold to the same organization things get extremely complicated. Fold in some magic hidden deep within their enclosure that the organization isn’t aware of and we have a intriguing tale.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I must admit, I didn't see a way out for them all, it felt almost desolate until Luther came through for them all. A great read, I'd love to know if that was a Fae escaping at the end and to read their story!
Phew!! This book broken my heart then mended it in the end. The characters in this book, Eve, Oryn, and Luther just couldn’t get a break! I love a great story about survival, the struggles they faced and the mountain they has to climb for their freedom. Ugh. Ugly tears. Rhea killed it as usual. Beautiful written, funny despite the traumatic moments. I loved every minute of this book.
I was expecting breeding kink, but this book is actually the opposite of that: avoiding it at all costs, and as soon as it happens, stuff hits the fan. There were some choices made by the author that didn’t make sense to me, specifically related to the way fertility works in their version of the omegaverse. Generally speaking, omegas are fertile when they’re in heat, and there’s a low (sometimes zero) chance of pregnancy outside of those times. In this book, a single act of coitus outside of the omega’s heat is stated to have a 99% chance of pregnancy. That’s a bit preposterous, and feels extremely contrived in order to make the story work. If it was so easy for omegas to get pregnant, and the baddies running the tiger shifter prison are so determined, why don’t they just pay omegas to be surrogates instead of buying their entire life and personhood? A single artificial insemination would basically guarantee pregnancy, we know that the MMCs are incapable of not consenting to procedures such as semen sampling, and we wouldn’t have to mess around with this desperate two-month cajoling thing with the FMC and the MMCs. This is a super avoidable plot hole: either make it harder for the shifters to get human women pregnant (would require you to not spend half the book avoiding sex acts) or make it so that bonding and/or compatibility is necessary (would require you to delay the angsty scene where the alphas are immediately separated from the omega right after they do it for the first time, but might be worth it imho because that was one of the most irritating/unsatisfying parts—the baddies could’ve stuck them in ye olde white padded room from day one).
That said, I actually did end up enjoying the book, seeing the time they took with the characters learning to trust one another and create a livable environment out of an impossible situation.
I did not understand the fae magic ending, and needed a lot more information other than “it’s glowing and it burns things it touches” if you wanted me to believe it was capable of bringing down the facility and yet the baddies just left it there in the tunnels with the tigers instead of just bricking the darn thing up. I feel it was contrived to create a self-sacrifice situation where the MMC would be heavily scarred even with his shifter healing, and I simply didn’t understand why this was necessary, narratively speaking. Enduring great pain to get to his mate is one thing, but considering the psychic scars already left by the facility, the loss of his physical appearance adds insult to injury. This is not some kind of transformative moment for the character, and there’s no lesson learned or irony in it. It’s just body horror for horror’s sake.
The writing is great, the dialogue is great, the whole book is very emotional and yearning. It’s definitely worth looking into.
This was a new author for me, I was very intrigued by the blurb, it seemed like it would be quite a different type of Omegaverse read - glad I went for this as I was thoroughly hooked by the story from the start, a great read but not always an easy one!
Eve's world is turned upside down in an instant, one day she is looking forward to a normal happy life being an Omega to an Alpha, the next her father has sold her to pay off his debts, and she is literally thrown into a cage with two captive tiger shifters in the hope that the forced proximity makes them breed.
Luther and Oryn are the two captive males and have been kept captive for quite a while now. Luther is the older one and has been there the longest, he is beaten down and withdrawn, keeps to himself, but has just about given up hope of ever getting out. Oryn is ex-military and tries to be bright and cheerful and have a positive outlook on things. But when Eve is added to their cage the goalposts are moved and things change. They all agree to try and resist their natural inclinations to mate, none of them want to have the pups that the Corporation that holds them tries to force, even by bringing on a false heat for Eve.
Of course, the longer the three are together the friendlier they become, with bonds forming between the three and even between the two Alphas. But they are never left alone, with cameras watching them all the time, and the Alphas being tranquilized for their 'health checks' to take place.
Eve tries her best to care for her Alphas, as much as they care for her, but in the end natural instincts take over, with the help of the Corporation of course.
I loved the story, but oh my did I feel for these three, it felt that they just couldn't catch a break, just when you think things are improving something happens and you feel awful for what they go through. I loved how the relationship builds between the three, even the bond between the two Alphas was a wonderful thing - watching the two tigers together was wonderful. But they are captives in a cage, and the Corporation want pups, and will stop at nothing to get them.
There is a dark paranormal twist to this story that adds another very interesting layer to this that eventually contributes to their happy ending, but what they have to go through to get it was rough. Well worth the read for a different Omegaverse read, there's nothing sweet about it so don't expect that, it's quite gritty and emotional, there are some lighter scenes which were lovely, but there are some darker scenes at the end also. There are some steamy omegaverse type scenes in here as well of course. Well worth the read.... I'm looking forward to reading more from the Extinction Omegaverse collection.
Overall, I did really like this book! The writing is super good and the story had me feeling all the emotions. It was tough to get through certain parts and yes I was genuinely sobbing on my couch at the injustice of it all. The pacing was well done and despite the pain, I enjoyed the plot as a whole. Luther and Oryn were absolute perfection, they balanced each other so well. I loved the way the relationships between the characters developed. It felt natural and right, like fated mates but without the drama of all that. More comforting and homey. Idk if that makes sense 😂
I will say, Eve was a little too soft for my taste, I wish she would have had a bit more bite to her and that she got a moment to really stick it to the people doing this to them. Especially in her interactions with Gloria, who didn’t get the pushback she really deserved. I get that there are different types of strength and Eve was definitely strong in her own way but she felt just a bit too passive for me when it mattered. One of my biggest complaints would definitely be that ultimately there was no confrontation between the leads and the baddies that gave any sense of real triumph over them so the final conflict felt a bit underwhelming despite the huge way it went down. I wanted the payoff of them having to confront what they did before getting their throats ripped out especially after the emotional damage I went through with these characters….is that a little too bloodthirsty of me? lol
Also, ((probably some type of spoiler)) I REALLY wish we would have gotten a final sex scene with them when they were fully in control and consenting. Every “spicy” scene was under some kind of duress so it never felt quite right even if they ultimately do want and love each other. I think we all needed that for a bit of healing by the end haha
All in all, I generally like this author’s work and look forward to more books set in this world!
I stumbled upon Rhea Watson when I read her Christmas extension omegaverse novella (mistletoe omega) Paranormal omegaverse is new for me but after enjoying the novella I thought I will admit I had reservations about losing track of the world the book exists in which would mean I couldn’t enjoy the book but these were unfounded. Rhea does a great job of explaining this in detail at the outset and throughout the book in a manner that is easy to follow and doesn’t detract from the overall storyline. And the storyline - where to start?
My heart absolutely went out to Eve who finds herself in a strange testing facility after being sold off to the corporation by her father to repay his debts. Forced into an artificial heat she is thrown into a fake jungle with two alpha shifter, Luther and Oryn. Luther has been at the facility the longest having and having bested his former jail mates Oryn, who is ex military, has been living with him the past year. The three agree to resist their urges towards each other so not to give the corporation the pups they desire but of course life doesn’t always go to plan. They find that in caring for each other their bonds to each other grow and, with some help from the corporation, their desires cannot be resisted forever.
I won’t say much more as to do so will spoil the book. I loved this read but boy is it an emotional rollercoaster, I felt my heart was filled with sweet moments and hope for the characters to then be ripped out a number of times. There were times I just wanted to skip to the end to get to the much deserved HEA but I’m so glad I didn’t because it makes it that much more rewarding. The spice was hot and the additional MM was *chefs kiss*. Cannot wait for the next instalment - do not hesitate to read.
This book wasn't what I expected it to be and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I agree with the author's note that clarifies that the romance itself isn't dark, but other content of the book is (so it's dark, and it's a romance, but not a dark romance). For me, the dark content of the book (medical testing, unethical experiments, unwilling participants, drug induced artificial heats and forced breeding in captivity etc) was too overbearing for me to actually enjoy any of the small romances that happened between the characters. This isn't to say the book is bad- if anything, maybe it's a work of art in that it creates such an uncomfortable atmosphere- just that it's not what I expected (which is on me, the blurb/TW list pretty clearly states whats coming) and not what I'd typically enjoy. I liked the budding bond between all three members, especially between the men in a platonic and familial way, as I feel like the bond between men not sexually/romantically involved with one another in RH dynamics is usually somewhat overlooked. The world building of the different islands, social hierarchies, types of governments, shifter species, fae stones and scientific discoveries was a bit lost on me and maybe a little overdeveloped and unnecessarily complicated as the whole book was set in a single facility. Considering it was basically just three strangers thrown together in a controlled wilderness and resisting the urge to mate or catch feelings (and doing so in the end), it felt like a lot of nothing. It wasn't bad per se, but definitely not my cup of tea. 4/10.
It has been awhile since I have read a book by Rhea Watson as usual she does not disappoint with her newest story. I loved every story I have read of hers and that includes this start to her Extinction Omegaverse.
This is Eve’s story and it’s not an easy one. Sold to a breeding facility because she was a class-B Omega she finds herself thrown in with two handsome Tiger shifters. Oryn and Luther are two unbonded Alpha Tiger shifters who were placed in captivity, supposedly those in charge want to save the tigers from extinction. They have remained abstinent for years, then an omega is forced into a heat and thrown in with them…..still they resist but for how long? Their attraction and connection is instant. Though they all try their best to fight it it’s still intense and hot between them all.
This was an extremely intriguing slow-burn tale with lots of twists and turns, and a mountain of emotional ups and downs. These three were so amazing together and the bonds they finally developed were beautiful. The research facility truly is a place of nightmares and when the truths come out it will leave you feeling broken and devastated. But it makes Eve, Oryn, and Luther’s HEA all that more intense and perfect. I truly can’t wait to read what comes next in this world. Really looking forward to it. Definitely highly recommend this book.
Sacrifice is so perfectly titled, and that cover is absolutely fabulous. I tend to jot down notes as I read, and I refer back to them as I write the review. Rhea Watson changed my routine. I had my little notepad handy, but when I looked up after reading the last page, I had exactly one note: Tigers! Yay! That's it. I barely even looked away from my Kindle once I started reading. My intention was to make this my weekend read. Ha! It was my Saturday read. I could not put this one down. Now, that isn't an unusual thing for me with this author. Everything she does is sure to be a page-turner, but this book blew me away. It's dark and even disturbing at times, and it's intense. And somehow, in the midst of everything these characters are put through, there's loyalty, love, and hope. I was seriously starting to worry that Rhea Watson was going to write herself into a corner on this one, but of course, there's an answer that fits the story and the characters. Characters I couldn't get enough of. Sacrifice can be read as a standalone, but once you've explored the fascinating world Watson has created, I expect you'll be like me - anxiously waiting for whatever comes next for Extinction Omegaverse.
Eve is an Omega, in a world depending on where you live, dictates how many rights you have. Unknown to her, her family has sold her to pay their debts. Betrayed and heartbroken, Eve quickly learns she has been sold to a facility that claims to be trying to save tiger shifters. She is quickly brought up to speed by the two alphas that are in captivity, Oryn and Luther, that it is little more than a breeding program and the only form of rebellion they have is to avoid claiming each other. Which proves to be harder and harder as they get to know each other.
This story ran the gamut of emotions, betrayal, angst, attraction, resistance, anger, humiliation, happiness and love. The characters are well thought out and realistic for their designations.
I loved the slower burn aspects of the story, that even though there were moments of high steam, the love story was slower to come. Each of the characters had their own trauma to work through to come together as a family.
Highly recommend this book, it was an entertaining and wonderful story.
Since her awakening at puberty, Eve has had an expectation for her future – as omega to a bonded Alpha pack. She knew the lessons learned at the Omega Academy would guide her through what was to come. But she hadn’t counted on the betrayal that would see her sold to a shifter breeding facility. Now, she’ll just have to trust her instincts and act accordingly – or, perhaps not.
I enjoyed the many ways that the two Alpha tiger shifters – Oryn and Luther, were impacted by Eve’s sudden arrival into their compound. Despite agreeing on a plan of action, it was a very fine line, that all three danced upon while attempting to keep their innate biological inclinations at bay in their efforts to thwart their captors.
This well written, darkish, shifter Omegaverse romance features betrayal, forced captivity, some violence, an Alpha/omega dynamic, and explicit, MFM and MF sex which includes knotting. I’m looking forward to future tales set in the Extinction Omegaverse world. I received an Advanced Reader Copy from the author, and am voluntarily leaving a review.
● A fantastically executed, very unique premise. ● Layered characters with complex relationships. ● Forced slow-burn that allows for true relationship development. ● Good writing overall; poetic but punchy, and with enough descriptions to be immersive without bogging down the pace. ● An actually mentally strong, non-whiny FMC.
And a few thoughts and impressions: ● I feel like Eve and Luther got way more detailed character backgrounds and arcs than Oryn. Wish it'd been a tad more balanced. ● The resolution to their imprisonment was a bit of a deus ex machina cheat. ● I found it funny how, in this universe, the lightning apparently comes after the thunder. It's not every day that sound travels faster than light. ● The world-building, with humans and supernaturals of all different types living in tenuous harmony, coupled with the fact that this is an ABO universe where anyone can be any designation, is very intriguing. Lends itself to very unique and unexplored couplings/dynamics.
really good the the only thing was i j wish there was another 🔥 scene in the epilogue bc the three 🔥 scenes that are in the book are all forced either through drugs or being locked in a room and tortured until they cave and i just wish there was one of their own want without interference and forcing. oh and i also wish eve beat the shit out of the nurse gloria bc she mad me so mad the entire time and at the end the mc j was chill w her. also it’s never explained what happens at the end w the nurse and those security guards and why gloria j let eve and oryn leave and helped them by telling them how to get out like i didn’t understand that. did she finally realize how awful the program was or was she j like i’m not dying for this job? all in all good book, loved the plot, loved the execution, love the author as always.
I was drawn in from the beginning. Eve was sold by her father to a lab that experiments on omegas or so they say. After she received a heat shot she was thrown into a fake, controlled setting with two tiger shifters. Little does she know her world is about to be turned upside down. Oryn and Luther are two adorable, tiger shifters that want to bond with Eve but they know what the outcome will be. The line is drawn as friends. Eve's survival instincts kick in and does everything she can to make her men comfortable and safe. When the psycho scientist has had enough of their games he takes matters into his on hands and forces the pregnancy to happen. An exciting story that keeps you turning the pages.
Reaper's Pack was a decent read, so when Amazon recommended this one by the same author, I couldn't possibly have predicted just how quickly I'd jump ship.
*Sigh* Not even 25% in and I'm done. The writing is awkward and disconnected while the dialog ping ponged between cringe and cringier. Normally, I'll give a book a chance to get through that initial building of the foundation if it feels slow or difficult to connect with... but this wasn't that. This was almost like the disorganized panic writing of a student trying to complete an essay the night before it's due. And to make up for the chaos, the student tries to distract the reader with repeated physical descriptions and gratuitous sexual and biological reactions.
I’m honestly writing this half asleep at 1:00am so bare with me. I liked it, it was a great read. I honestly don’t know what I wished it had more of, but I’d like more of that. My only complaint? I don’t think the author should have added that magical element at the end, I honestly liked the modernization of the omegaverse. I think they should’ve been able to escape without that but if magic. 10 year age gap kind of made me cringe, but hey I can overlook it. I don’t really know what tropes I would say this book has but… you should read it I guess. I enjoyed it, I did DNF it at like… 93% but it had just hit 1:00am and I pretty much finished the book except for the escape. I feel like we needed more depth to the characters, j don’t know. Just needed more something, again.
I’m still processing this darkish omegaverse story. I was gutted and my heart shattered by this book. Eve, Oryn and Luther were each broken by what happened to them and they found a little happiness in their enclosed world. That is until another tragedy took them to another level. I never realized how bloodthirsty I was in hoping for all kinds of karma for the people at the facility. This author brought this world and these characters to full bloom. The story was truly amazing and I can’t recommend it enough. This is a must read, but make sure you have tissues handy. My heart ached with happiness at the epilogue. Thank you
