Finn's Tale: Volume 1 by Julie Sandilands

Rate this book
Finn’s Tale is a story about a young boy growing up in a small mining village in north Yorkshire in the 1960s. Finn is a sensitive, intelligent, young boy who doesn’t like school or being confined indoors. The tale follows Finn’s life during a particular autumn within the insular, rural community, and the effect the mine has had, not only on the village, but on his family and upbringing. Finn’s father died from working down the mine and Finn is determined that he will not suffer the same fate.To escape the village and the sometimes judgemental inhabitants, Finn spends most of his spare time exploring Tyndale Wood, not far from his home. Here, he finds the peace he needs to communicate with nature in his own unique style. Finn discovers he has inherited a gift which enables him to speak to the woodland animals, and with their help, sets out to uncover the mystery of the missing pebbles and the strange looking men who appear in the wood after dark. During his adventure, Finn befriends Ryan, a Gypsy boy who visits Tyndale with his family. Ryan is Finn’s only friend and they enjoy spending time together exploring the wood. The friendship is short lived as the Gypsies are driven from the Tyndale by the residents, their anger fuelled by ignorance and a reluctance to learn about the culture of these unique folk. One night, Finn is invited inside Mount Shallien by the ancient race of people who live there. During his visit he learns that the planet is in fact a living entity which deserves love and respect, and makes a promise to share this information with the rest of the world. After this enlightening visit, Finn is able to face the bullies and make changes which will not only affect his life, but also the lives of those around him.

About the author

Who am I?

I am an author selling my books on-line and through independent retailers.

What do I write about?

I write about anything that genuinely interests me, especially if I can draw on personal experience, or from others. I have written a trilogy called the Tale series aimed at children between 7-12 years set in rural England in the 1960s.

Also available; The Perils of Skinny-dipping which follows the fortunes of Abbey, a volunteer working in Kasane, Botswana. Whilst living in Gaborone, Botswana as a teacher, I met some truely inspiring people. Their stories are interwoven throughout the plot.

I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by talented, creative people in the form of artists, illustrators, graphic designers and photographers. Without their expetise the paperback version of all three books would not have been possible. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for their enthusiasm and belief in my work.

I hereby invite you to browse the information on my profile. Books can be purchased in both paperback and Kindle format via Amazon.

I hope you enjoy reading the stories and thank you for your interest in my work.
