Jorge (or Jorge Antonio Tello Aliaga for short) is a writer and illustrator born and raised in Lima, Perú.
His years of experience include designing award winning educational children’s software and being a design manager at the world’s largest graphic software company. He enjoys writing, drawing, composing, programming, cooking (Peruvian food), and speaking English (with a cool accent!).
Even as a youngster, Jorge dreamed of publishing children’s books. His other dreams include designing toys, creating a sci-fi/fantasy magazine, making cartoons, producing movies, building a theme park, becoming president of Perú, and achieving world peace (if time permits) ;)
His name is Spanish for George and it is pronounced “HOR-heh”.
In a wondrous world far away, exceptional creatures known as Blobbies live and laugh as they change shape whenever they wish. Seven of the newest Blobbies, Blue, Green, Violet, Indigo, Yellow, Orange, and Red, love to explore their home. But changing into basic shapes soon becomes a bit…boring. Certain there is more to discover in the universe, two of the little Blobbies venture out to ask the wisdom of the enormous Blobbie Void, who must never be awakened. Soon, untold disaster comes to Blobbieworld, and the seven little Blobbies are sent to earth to protect them from deadly enemies unleashed upon the cosmos. Can these seven brave Blobbies use the wisdom they learn on earth to protect their home, or is all forever lost? Here Come the Blobbies: 20th Anniversary Edition by Jorge Aliagra is a fantastically fun adventure full of educational value. The Blobbies are just wonderful; they remind me of my childhood in all the best ways. Blobbies can be anything they wish to be, and remind the reader of a time when anything was possible. I love how diverse the Blobbies are, and how inclusive this story is. The action moves quickly, and the illustrations are vibrant and full of life. I liked that so many of the illustrations took inspiration from physical locations in Peru. My favorite characters were Blobbie Green and Blobbie Void, and I love how the siblings interact with each other as they fight to save the universe. The story comes to a lovely conclusion, while leaving the world open for many more possible entries as the Blobbies continue to explore. The story and illustrations alone more than earn this book five out of five stars, but that isn’t even all this book has to offer! This 20th anniversary edition includes pages that teach about shapes and personality types, as well as a continuation of the overall message of universal acceptance and diversity. There are pages of concept art, notes from the author, and even eleven pages of a Blobbie movie script that is joyous to read. All in all, this book is jam-packed full of wonder and love, and would make an excellent gift for any young reader. A story of endless possibilities, inclusion, and the joy of being our own unique beings, this tale of intrepid Blobbies who strive to save the world is suitable for readers of all ages. Containing mild fantasy violence, this epic narrative of adorable shapeshifters protecting the world is the perfect pick for reading together or independently, and is certain to leave you smiling as you celebrate a universe of limitless potential.
This is a great book to teach about shapes. The Blobbies come to Earth from another planet and shape shift in order to defeat the bad guys. They change into the different geometric shapes (hexagons, triangles, squares, etc). It is a wonderful book with great pictures that would be great to get students excited about the shapes.
This science fiction book is for little kids to get them interested in science. It uses many different colors and cool names for each shape so the kids can enjoy more, rather than having a hard time just saying the names. Although this is a kids book, it has too much information in one page; maybe if it was more spread out, then the kids would enjoy more.
I doubt this will be one of my "go to" books. However, I do like that this book falls into the science-fiction category. I will very likely suggest this book to readers who show an interest in science-fiction topics. Also, the glossary at the end if the book is a plus. Overall, this isn't a favorite, but it may prove to be a useful book in elementary classrooms.
